    Overall Role Purpose:


    Reporting to the Senior Practitioner, the post holder will be responsible for managing a caseload and collaborating with other YOTPS staff and external partner agencies to identify, develop, and deliver interventions and preventative initiatives aimed at preventing offending, reducing reoffending, and addressing anti-social behaviour in young offenders.

    This will involve working in partnership with relevant agencies to design and implement effective strategies that promote positive outcomes for young people.

    Additionally, the post holder will be required to represent the YOTPS while performing court duty.


    Manage a caseload of youth justice cases, both out-of-court disposals and statutory court orders, in accordance with the National Standards and the HMIP Inspection Framework.

    Implement the Child First, Offender Second approach to provide effective support and interventions for children and young people to complete their disposals/orders and live a crime-free life.

    Use AssetPlus as an Assessment and Planning tool to focus on building a foundation for change and desistance factors, supporting children and young people to refrain from offending and re-offending.

    Contribute to the development and implementation of effective solutions to youth crime, including taking a lead in working with looked-after children, children and young people leaving custody, group work, prolific young offenders, EET, bail and remand, restorative justice, serious youth violence, and victims.

    Proactively promote the welfare of children and young people, reducing risks of harm and promoting safety and well-being.

    Involve and consult with children and young people, their families, and/or victims as appropriate to improve and identify new working practices.

    Work flexibly to meet the needs of children and young people, their families/carers, and the Courts, including working evenings and weekends/bank holidays.

    Collaborate with children and young people, their families, and partner agencies to deliver evidence-based group and/or individual interventions/programmes that reduce the risk of offending, re-offending, and disengagement from education, employment, and training.


    • Undertake assessments and complete AssetPlus with effective assessment, planning, implementation/delivery, and review. Prepare reports for the court, panel reports for referral order panel, and other forums as required. Represent YOTPS and present information to courts. Participate in duty rotas, including office and court duty rota, Saturday court rota, and translate assessments into effective and innovative intervention plans and contracts. Provide engagement and deliver interventions based on analysis of assessments to keep children and young people safe and keep others safe. Negotiate and actively refer children and their families to appropriate services provided by the Local Authority, partner agencies, and voluntary sector providers and co-work cases with staff from other agencies. Develop a high level of knowledge about the local community and existing provision for children and young people, parents, and their families. Maintain case management records on designated management information systems and in manual written case files. Communicate effectively with a range of different audiences. Actively participate in regular supervision sessions, relevant training and learning events, and other opportunities for professional development. Maintain a courteous, helpful, and polite response to staff and service users, promote anti-discriminatory practice, and ensure individual needs are recognised and supported. Participate in duty rotas, including the office and Saturday court rotas.

    Requirements


    Knowledge & Experience

    At least one year of proven experience working as a Youth Offending Case Manager, utilising AssetPlus as an assessment and planning tool, is required.


    A comprehensive understanding of the Children Act 1989, Crime and Disorder Act 1998, the Data Protection Act, GDPR, and other pertinent legislative frameworks and updates is essential.

    Knowledge of the most recent developments in youth justice initiatives is required.


    Familiarity with the root causes of crime and effective interventions to reduce reoffence, youth crime, and antisocial behaviour are necessary.

    Understanding the roles and responsibilities of relevant statutory partner agencies is important.


    Familiarity with research on effective practices with children and young people, particularly in the area of youth crime prevention, is required.

    Knowledge and understanding of child development, adverse childhood experiences, and trauma-informed practices are expected.

    Experience in preparing Pre-Sentence Reports is necessary.

    Educated to "A" level standard or equivalent as a minimum.

    A qualification relevant to one of the following disciplines is desirable:

    Other relevant discipline
