    The eCommerce industry is thriving in 2023, with businesses adapting quickly to the accelerated shift to online shopping brought on by the pandemic.

    eCommerce leaders have been at the forefront of these changes, navigating new challenges and opportunities, all whilst supporting and managing all types of employees.

    We have recently released our 2023 eCommerce Salary Survey , which provides insights into the lives of eCommerce leaders and the state of the industry right now.

    Remote, hybrid and office working

    Flexible working is becoming increasingly common in the world of eCommerce, with 74% of eCommerce leaders in our survey reporting that they work on a hybrid basis, and 26% being fully remote.

    This highlights the trend towards flexible working and the fact that many businesses have recognised the benefits of working remotely, even post-pandemic.

    But are eCommerce leaders encouraging their staff to do the same? Return to office

    Many businesses are keen to encourage their staff to return to the office – whether it is to develop company culture or improve productivity.

    According to our survey, 59% of eCommerce leaders are using free food and drinks to try and coax staff back, while 55% are using staggered hours and 32% are offering extra holiday allowance.

    These perks show that businesses are aware of the importance of creating an appealing office environment to attract staff back, but are they sure that these incentives will be successful?

    However, 23% of employers shared that they are happy for their teams to continue working remotely, or on a hybrid basis.

    This is because their teams are working effectively as they are, and many candidates were hired with the expectation of their flexible working continuing.

    It's not just about getting staff back to the office - it's also about supporting their mental health and wellbeing.

    92% of eCommerce leaders in our survey said they are using flexible working as a way of doing this, alongside a realistic workload (58%) and free annual leave days and birthdays off work (31%).

    Advice for eCommerce leaders
    If you're an eCommerce leader yourself, what can you take away from this survey? Firstly, it's clear that flexible working is here to stay, and if you haven't already embraced it, it's time to start
    Secondly, creating an appealing office environment is important, but so is supporting your staff's mental health and wellbeing.

    Finally, by offering realistic workloads and meaningful perks such as free annual leave, you can create an environment where your staff feel valued and motivated.
