About the Team

The introduction of the 2014 Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice stated that all Local Authorities must provide parents, carers, children and young people with access to a SEND Information Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS).

In Surrey, the service is called SEND Advice Surrey.

We provide impartial information, advice and support regarding SEND processes and develop confidence in our service-users so they can become empowered to self-advocate, express their views and make informed choices.

About the Role

As our Helpline Advisor you will be the first point of contact for the SEND Advice Surrey team by triaging all contacts in, completing these at first contact where possible or passing to an Advisor if more complex.

This is a really varied role but typically you can expect to be involved in the following:

  • Monitoring the database to ensure that Advisor actions comply with deadlines on case work
  • Be aware of periods of staff holidays and sickness, so that work can be allocated appropriately
  • Collecting data in order to provide written reports to the Manager at agreed intervals for monitoring purposes
  • Assisting in developing Information Sheets on popular topics
  • Monitoring capacity and reporting any issues to the Team Manager

Shortlisting Criteria

  • Some knowledge and understanding of the issues faced by vulnerable families with children with additional needs
  • Successful record of partnership working and effective team work
  • Confident in the use of IT
  • Excellent organisational skills

By joining our team you'll empower children, young people and their families to navigate the complex world of SEND with confidence and knowledge.

If you're passionate about making a difference to the lives of those with SEND and are ready to inspire positive change, we want to hear from you
