    Description
    As the Director of Engineering Development, this role will be a key member of the Engineering Leadership Team and lead all new engineering development within Ultra PCS. This role will have the overall responsibility for managing both the revenue and cost elements of all projects within the Engineering Team. This role will deliver all projects within Engineering and hold responsibility for all the project management resources to deliver and win new business for Ultra PCS.

    This role will work closely with the Head of Engineering and Chief Technology Officer to deliver the engineering developments required from the business.

    This role will lead Project Managers to manage engineering projects to successful completion through planning, monitoring, and controlling the execution of the projects.

    This role will be responsible for achieving an On Time In Full (OTIF) as set by the VP Engineering and for project performance on financial target baselines. This role will also have responsibility for project revenue and gross margins, ensuring cost and revenue forecasts for opportunities are incorporated into financials and information reported is accurate across all the projects.

    This role will be responsible for formulating development strategy , effective planning, delegating, coordinating, staffing, organising, and decision making to attain desirable profit-making results.

    This position will collaborate with other Heads of the Departments and VPs to develop strategic plans for business growth based on short-term and long-term goals, communicating those goals to Project Team, leading them to success.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for implementation and adherence to Ultra PCS programme management and engineering policies
    • Develop and use disciplined processes to successfully complete projects according to a cohesive plan
    • Ensure the overall performance of all projects with timely and appropriate preventative and corrective actions are taken as needed
    • Maintain high OTD and quality standards
    • Chair engineering project reviews and identify risks and opportunities to support business improvement
    • Chair and maintain project risk and opportunity reviews and registers
    • Ensure that the financial and human resource requirements necessary to complete all projects are identified and clearly communicated to the Leadership Team
    • Lead, motivate and develop a Project Team of the correct size and with the necessary skills to meet the business needs of Ultra PCS
    • Strive to support the delivery of the budget and strategic plan objectives
    • Meet the business's contractual engineering commitments to the satisfaction of external and internal customers
    • Support the Value Streams with the resources necessary to develop winning bid strategies and deliver innovative winning proposals
    • Manage and maintain the company's products and technologies and deliver IRAD investments to the satisfaction of the Value Steams
    • Communicate and embody the company vision and values
    • Strengthen talent within the company by recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and mentoring new employees
    • Reviews all bids, estimates and proposals for new projects
    • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
    • Evaluate employee performance and provide additional coaching and support as needed
    • Ensure continuous improvement and aligning organisational processes, creating a team-focused environment where all collaborate and execute successfully

    Required Skills & Experience:

    • A Bachelor's degree in related field; MBA preferred or relevant level of experience
    • An engineering background would be preferred
    • CEng certification preferred
    • A minimum of 7 years' experience in programme management experience in a design / development and manufacturing environment
    • A background in commercial negotiations and negotiating
    • Previous success in managing Project Managers and engineers in a leadership role
    • Experience with working with the Defence and Major Prime Contractors
    • APM / PMP Certification or equivalent
    • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM)
    • Must be a UK citizen and have the ability to achieve SC (potentially DV) clearance
    • Domestic and international travel required
    • Communication skills are key to increasing management's effectiveness with both superiors and subordinates
    • Leadership skills are pertinent to providing and seeking out continuing education opportunities and fostering a growth mindset
    • Delegation skills are crucial in identifying the best person (or people) for a particular task and act as a facilitator to motivate and direct the work
    • Time management skills are important in prioritizing tasks to ensure that projects are completed by deadlines and streamlining processes to maximize productivity
    • Negotiation skills are necessary for closing on opportunities for new business and follow-on work
    • Decision-making skills are key to weighing the costs and benefits of various options and determining the best course of action to achieve company goals
    • Problem-solving skills are crucial to analysing past and current performance and recommending objectives to improve productivity and profitability
    • Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements
    • Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures
    • Competent in use of Microsoft Office products
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent presentation skills

    Security Clearance:

    Candidates must be able to achieve a DV security clearance
