    Default job background
    Scientific
    Description

Oxford Nanopore Technologies is headquartered at the Oxford Science Park outside Oxford, UK, with satellite offices and a commercial presence in many global locations across the US, APAC and Europe.

Oxford Nanopore employs from multiple subject areas including nanopore science, molecular biology and applications, informatics, engineering, electronics, manufacturing and commercialisation. The management team, led by CEO Dr Gordon Sanghera, has a track record of delivering disruptive technologies to the market.

Oxford Nanopore's sequencing platform is the only technology that offers real-time analysis, in fully scalable formats from pocket to population scale, that can analyse native DNA or RNA and sequence any length of fragment to achieve short to ultra-long read lengths. Our goal is to enable the analysis of any living thing, by anyone, anywhere

We are looking for a Bioinformatician to join the Commercial Applications EMEA team

    The details...
The Commercial Applications team is a new team that strives to help generate revenue and support key customers while working on the newest and most innovative of our released technology. Specifically, the Commercial Applications team carries out tailored pilot projects for potential customers to demonstrate the quality and benefits of Nanopore sequencing in order to drive new customer acquisition and support sales in the EMEAI region. Furthermore, the team uses their expertise of Nanopore sequencing and data analysis to support existing key customers in carrying out high-impact projects. The types of projects will cover the full range of existing and new applications of Nanopore's sequencing platform including DNA and transcriptomics sequencing.

Please note we would also consider remote candidates within the UK for this position.

You will work with wet and dry lab scientists to interpret sequencing data in a range of contexts to answer biological questions. You will build bioinformatic workflows and give best-practice advice to our support and commercial teams on how to use our technology in a real-world setting. This exciting opportunity involves supporting experimental design and analysing nanopore sequencing data. Where there are no established methods yet, you will collaborate with other members of the team to explore how best to answer the biological questions posed and establish suitable analysis tools and workflows. You will communicate your findings to internal team members and present your work in meetings and webinars.

    Responsibilities include:
    - Analyse data and interpret results for a wide range of different applications of Nanopore sequencing
    - Working with laboratory-based scientists to help them plan and refine experiments, interpreting the data they have generated in appropriate biological context, and reporting the results. Interacting with other bioinformaticians in the company to utilise and adapt their tools for analysis.
    - Collaborating as part of a multi-disciplinary team on the experimental cycle from sample collection through to high-quality publication

    What we're looking for...
    - MSc or PhD in a Biological Science or Computer Science with a substantial bioinformatics component, or equivalent experience.
    - Experience of handling and analysing large next-generation sequencing datasets and working closely with experimental scientists to continually refine experimental and analytical approaches.
    - Experience with using and adapting bioinformatics tools and building bioinformatic pipelines.
    - Understanding of the range and limitations of existing bioinformatics tools. In addition, you have experience with scripting languages, e.g. python or R.
Additional skills, experience and knowledge in the following areas are also desirable:
    - Experience with NGS data analysis using long reads. Experience with analysis of bulk or single cell RNA sequencing is a plus
    - Experience with workflow management systems (e.g. nextflow), good software development practices (e.g. version control), advanced data visualisation, and statistical data analysis
    - Hands-on wet lab experience, or a track record of close interaction with wet lab scientists, on sample and library preparation for NGS
    - Good scientific literacy skills, including experience with reading and writing research reports or publications, and up-to-date knowledge of NGS literature
    - Postdoctoral research experience or similar research experience in biotechnology industry
We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic about discussing experimental science and bioinformatics and presenting data. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to prioritise and you are a motivated self-starter.

We offer outstanding benefits to include an attractive bonus, generous pension contributions, private healthcare and an excellent starting salary. Based within beautiful, landscaped surroundings with tree-lined walks, water features and a lake, all of which make for a wonderful working environment.

If you are looking to utilise your skills to really make a difference to humankind, then consider joining our team and apply today
