In addition to maintaining and securing the Bank premises ,PPSD has responsibility for delivering a c£11mn property investment portfolio, business continuity, health & safety, events, facilities (switchboard, help desk and reception), catering, cleaning, post and travel whilst ensuring value for money is achieved in all Bank wide procurements.

The Bank exists to ensure monetary stability and to contribute to financial stability. PPSD ensure that the infrastructures required to support the Bank's critical functions are maintained and enhanced.


Department Overview


The Security Operations team are part of the Property, Procurement and Security Division (PPSD) with the main priority of safety and security to all staff and visitors, protection of the building, its assets and information.

The Security Operations team have been restructured and a revised operating model now allows more flexibility within the teams to train, test and exercise without impacting on daily duties.

As the Bank of England is part of the UK's Critical National Infrastructure we have good engagement with law enforcement, local security partners and other agencies within the City of London.

The security team engage with stakeholders across all business areas which makes this an interesting and varied role within an organised and disciplined department of the UK's Central Bank.


Job description


The primary focus of the Security Officer role is the delivery of security tasks, requiring industry standard knowledge of security activities.

Will be required to use own initiative and escalate issues to team leaders or managers when appropriate. Being alert, motivated, vigilant and authoritative are key factors for this role.

The security team have a wide range of responsibilities such as:


  • Static guarding
  • Internal and external patrolling
  • Searching
  • Examination of deliveries
  • Building protection

Two positions available
Shift pattern which are predominantly 3 on / 3 off rotation, but with two additional training days. This is a combination of early, late and night shifts on a rotation system. Hours of working are approximately 9 hours per shift as are training days.


Role Requirements

Minimum (essential) Criteria

  • Prior experience working as a security officer within the Security Industry or equivalent
  • Work effectively as an individual without supervision
  • Excellent customer focus
  • Excellent team player
  • Presentable and smart at all times
  • Articulate and able to communicate well, both written and verbally.
  • Flexibility, quick thinking and reacting immediately are key for this role
  • Confident in dealing with visitors, VIPs, senior executives of the Bank
  • Experience of working within a similar role would be advantageous
  • A professional demeanour with sound judgement and integrity
  • Ability to respond to security incidents and implement emergency procedures.

Desirable Criteria

  • A valid front line SIA Licence or current certificate of completion of SIA front line training.
  • Experience in delivering a personal and professional customer experience would be advantageous.
