    Description

    Shaw healthcare is looking for a Clinical, Counselling or Forensic psychologist to join the team at Surehaven Hospital in Glasgow. You will join a team that is fully committed to making a difference to the lives of those who we provide care for. Our aim is to deliver the highest standard of care to our service users.

    Surehaven Glasgow has an excellent reputation as a highly valued provider of care. The needs of our service users are at the centre of all we do every single day.

    Surehaven hospital is a low secure forensic service which specialises in the assessment and treatment of people with a mental illness. We are a purpose built 21 bedded low secure facility with two gender specific wards. Our objective is to offer excellent care and support to our patients in learning how to function independently and prepare for life in the community. We look at the strengths and needs of the individuals and promote recovery-based treatments and person-centred care.

    The service works in partnership with a range of other services in both the statutory and voluntary sectors. The service comprises of nursing, medical, psychology, managerial and administrative personnel.

    As the psychologist, you will be provided with various training opportunities which will enable you to progress within Shaw health care. You will be provided with a generous salary package and entitled to all the Shaw healthcare benefits.

    Hours: 37.5 hours per week

    Salary: £55,649.62 per annum

  • Objectives:

  • To provide a high-quality psychology service to adults presenting to Surehaven with enduring and wide-ranging complex psychological, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Surehaven and Shaw Healthcare policies and procedures.
  • Contributing psychological expertise to assist service development and policy change within the area served by the post.
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team, providing a service for male and female adults that have histories of mental illness and psychological disorders who have been assigned a compulsory treatment order (CTO) or a compulsion order and restriction order (CORO), referred to Surehaven by the NHS.
  • To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or staff team and, over the course of the contact, adjusting and refining the psychological formulation, drawing on a wide range of therapies, models and the evidence base.
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, (and carers and families, where appropriate) including individual or group therapy using a variety of therapeutic models, as appropriate.
  • To provide psychological assessments. These are highly specialist assessments based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex psychological data from a variety of sources including psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's case as necessary and appropriate.
  • To undertake risk assessment (using protocols such as HCR-20) and risk management for individual clients and to provide general advice to other professionals and staff teams on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management, including assessment of risk of suicide or of other harm to self, or risk of violence to others.
  • To choose, administer, score, and interpret complex neuropsychological tests to assess function as an aid to diagnosis, management and treatment. This will be on a needs basis. A high degree of accuracy is required as well as familiarity with the statistical foundations of assessment tools including reliability, validity and the use of normative data. To provide neuropsychological reports to appropriate stakeholders.
  • To communicate the assessment, formulation and treatment plans to clients (and families, where appropriate) and the MDT in an empathic and supportive way.
  • Person Specification

  • Experience of utilising a trauma informed orientation and practice with individuals.
  • Experience of using psychological formulations to enhance the therapeutic milieu.
  • Training in clinical or counselling or forensic psychology (usually equivalent to a doctoral level) which is recognised as providing eligibility for registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Up to date knowledge of relevant psychological theories, approaches and ideas.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with individuals who find relationships difficult due to illness or trauma.
  • Competence in a range of assessment, formulation and therapeutic approaches.
  • Ability to demonstrate an assessment and case formulation of a highly complex case.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent highly specialist therapeutic skills in work with complex cases.
