About the Role:


Alpha PCN have an opportunity for a Physician Associate, covering practices within the Rothschild House Group, Manor Street Surgery and Gossoms End Surgery.

The responsibilities of the role include direct patient contact through assessment, examination, investigation, diagnosis and treatment.

You will maintain a key role in supporting delivery of network contracted services and to provide a holistic clinical service, with support from GPs as required.


Job Purpose:


  • Provide first point of contact of care for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems utilising historytaking, physical examinations and clinical decisionmaking skills to establish a working diagnosis and management plan in partnership with the patient (and their carers, where applicable).
  • To help support practices with structured care around patients with long term conditions, including frailty.
  • Will have direct and immediate access when needed to a GP/Doctor and work under supervision of the GP with which the patient is registered.
  • Review, analyse and action diagnostic test results.
  • Deliver integrated patient centredcare through appropriate working with the wider primary care multidisciplinary team and social care networks.
  • Undertake facetoface, telephone and online consultations for emergency or routine problems, as determined by the PCN, including management of patients with longterm conditions. Where required by the PCN, offer specialised clinics following appropriate training including (but not limited to) family planning, baby checks, COPD, asthma, diabetes and anticoagulation.
  • Undertake home visits and participate in duty rotas.
  • Provide health/disease promotion and prevention advice to patients.
  • Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidencebased practice and partake in clinical audits, significant event reviews and other research and analysis tasks.
  • Through participating in continuing professional development opportunities, keep up to date with evidencebased knowledge and competence in all aspects of the role, meeting clinical governance guidelines for continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Develop and agree a personal development plan (PDP) utilising a reflective approach to practice, operating under appropriate clinical supervision.
Essential skills & experience

  • Dynamic/able to use own initiative
  • A Post Graduate Degree in Physician Associate Studies from an accredited PA Programme
  • IT literate and proficient use of practice systems
  • Good communicator
  • Ability to teach others
  • Good presentation skills
  • Good problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to manage work load effectively
  • A high standard of clinical skills and experience with the ability to adapt to different situations
  • Willingness to work in the best interest of the patient
  • Team player with the ability to liaise effectively with colleagues and other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to liaise effectively with hospitals and other outside agencies
  • Must be a Member of the Faculty of Physician Associates at the RCP, which includes registration on the UK Physician Associate
  • Register (the PA Managed Voluntary Register) until such time that statutory regulation of PAs is achieved
  • Current and valid certification or recertification by the UK Physician Associate National Examination
  • Maintains CPD requirements of 50 hours per year (25 Type 1 and 25 Type 2)
  • DBS check
  • Previous experience in UK general practice
