    Further information

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate, including those at an early stage in their career, to take up an important role within the Council's Planning and Regeneration service, in particular to help drive forward Swansea's ambitious placemaking agenda.

Swansea sits at the heart of the South West Wales region and benefits from internationally recognised natural assets, including spectacular coastal environments and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which are integral parts of its cultural heritage. Swansea is also characterised by a rich, historic urban fabric, including a City Centre that is currently undergoing large-scale, transformational regeneration. This varied character illustrates the diversity of planning work to be undertaken by successful candidates, who will join friendly and welcoming teams of planning, placemaking and heritage officers, playing a key role in delivering Swansea's next chapter of development and enhancement. We have a strong focus on the sustainable repurposing of listed buildings linking to regeneration and communities. You will have the opportunity to feed into such schemes, as well as the various city centre regeneration plans and proposals set to be delivered with development partners. Residential-led masterplanning is also a key element of our work, building on the concepts set out in the Council's adopted LDP, with the focus on creating walkable places with community facilities at the heart. We are about to embark on the review of the Swansea LDP with opportunities to contribute to policy and supplementary planning guidance.

The Placemaking and Heritage Team plays a key role in guiding projects through advice, negotiation and leadership. We are a small team but with a wide ranging influence and the post presents a great opportunity for a committed professional to join the transformation. Candidates will need to demonstrate they have the drive, passion and capabilities to take up the role, to maintain Swansea's excellent record in customer service and performance, and our status as being at the forefront of Wales's placemaking agenda.

Candidates should have relevant experience and it is desirable that they either be a member of a relevant professional body (IHBC, RIBA, RTPI or Recognised Practitioner in Urban Design) or be undertaking training and gaining experience to achieve this.

Full details of the post duties and responsibilities can be found within the Job Description.
You will be given the necessary management and support to enable you to successfully undertake your role and develop professionally.
This is a permanent, full time post (37 hours per week).

    Safeguarding
Within Swansea Council there is a "Safeguarding is Everybody's Business" principle, and this applies to all Swansea Council employees, elected members, volunteers and contractors.
