    Transition Manager

    Pay Band: 9 SMPS

    Salary: £55,699 - £68,649 (+ £3,300 market allowance if based in London)

    Contract Type: 2-year fixed term contract

    Location: UK; London, Manchester, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast.

    Role Type: Advisory, Policy and Expertise

    Reports to: FTX Programme Director

    Requirements: Candidates must have the pre-existing (permanent) right to work in location.
    Mobility / relocation / visa sponsoring support will not be provided.

    Role Purpose

    The Transition Manager will lead the transition of activities for a Centre of Excellence (CoE) and drive the transformation of a retained model as part of our Finance Transformation Programme (FTX).

    The Transition Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring a smooth transition of processes, systems, and responsibilities, while also driving strategic initiatives to transform our finance function for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness.

    Context

    FTX is a comprehensive initiative designed to revolutionise and modernise the financial management processes and capabilities of the British Council. With a focus on optimising financial operations, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring long-term sustainability, the programme encompasses a range of strategic objectives.

    Key components of the programme include the adoption of financial technologies and systems to streamline processes and improve data accuracy. Additionally, it aims to restructure Finance teams across all regions. FTX places a strong emphasis on aligning financial practices with the British Council's mission and values.

    FTX is expected to yield significant benefits, including cost savings, improved financial reporting, and more efficient resource allocation. Furthermore, it will enable the British Council to allocate resources towards its core activities, such as promoting cultural exchange and education, and supporting international relations.

    FTX represents a crucial step in ensuring the British Council's financial resilience and capacity to continue its valuable global work.

    Main accountabilities

    Transition Planning and Execution:

  • Develop a comprehensive transition plan outlining activities, timelines, dependencies, and resources required for the transition of activities from current state to target state.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders across the organisation to ensure alignment and buy-in for the transition plan.
  • Lead the execution of the transition plan, managing activities, resolving issues, and mitigating risks to ensure successful delivery within agreed timelines and budget.
  • Change Management and Communication:

  • Develop and implement change management strategies to facilitate smooth transitions and minimise disruption to business operations.
  • Communicate transition plans, progress updates, and key milestones to stakeholders, ensuring transparency and engagement throughout the process.
  • Address stakeholder concerns and resistance to change, fostering a culture of collaboration and support for the transformation initiatives.
  • Process Optimisation and Standardisation:

  • Collaborate with process owners and subject matter experts to identify opportunities for process optimisation and standardisation.
  • Drive the redesign of processes to align with best practices, streamline workflows, and enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Implement tools and methodologies to measure process performance and identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Technology Integration and Innovation:

  • Partner with IT and other relevant teams to ensure seamless integration of technology solutions to support the transition and transformation objectives.
  • Explore innovative technologies and digital solutions to automate manual processes, improve data accuracy, and enable data-driven decision-making within the finance function.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor the progress and effectiveness of transition and transformation activities.
  • Prepare regular reports and dashboards to provide visibility into performance against targets, highlight achievements, and identify areas for course correction.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to conduct post-implementation reviews and lessons learned sessions to capture insights and drive continuous improvement.
  • Role specific skills

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritise tasks, and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organisation.
  • Sound understanding of finance processes, systems, and best practices, with a focus on process optimisation, standardisation, and automation.
  • Proficiency in change management methodologies and tools, with the ability to drive cultural change and build a change-ready organisation.
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on driving innovation, continuous improvement, and value creation for the business.
  • Role specific knowledge and experience

  • Leadership skills to motivate teams and drive change effectively.
  • Ability to develop and execute comprehensive transition plans.
  • Experience in integrating technology solutions to support finance transformation objectives.
  • Proficiency in performance monitoring and reporting, including establishing KPIs and metrics.
  • Experience in facilitating change management strategies to minimise disruption
  • Proven experience in leading complex transition and transformation initiatives within the finance function, preferably in a multinational organisation or shared services environment.
  • Desirable

  • Specific industry experience relevant to the organisation's sector.
  • Education

    Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

    Professional Qualifications and Certification

    Relevant professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, PMP.
    MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred
