    Job Title: Operating Theatre Practitioner at Halton Hospital

    The Nightingale building at Halton Hospital is dedicated to elective general surgery, featuring two theatres for elective procedures, a treatment suite for laser vein surgery, and Chronic Pain services. Adjacent to it is the Captain Sir Tom Moore Building (CSTM), with five elective surgery theatres focusing on various specialties like orthopaedics, breast, urology, ENT, gynaecology, and dental surgery.

    Main Duties of the Job:

    • Excellent communication and team working skills
    • Willingness to learn new skills
    • Forward-thinking and passionate about providing high standard of care
    • Supporting and teaching students and junior staff
    • Participating in a fully supported preceptorship and core competency program
    • Ensuring patient safety and high air quality standards
    • Performing a wide range of surgeries including Urology, Breast, General Surgery, Gynaecology, ENT, and more

    Job Responsibilities:

    Main Tasks:

    • Provide high-level support in patient care
    • Assess, plan, and evaluate patient care
    • Deputise for Team Leader when required
    • Participate in out-of-hour rota
    • Assist in alternative locations when needed
    • Act as patient advocate
    • Maintain patient safety and equipment
    • Promote a professional environment in Theatre
    • Manage caseloads and supervise staff

    Recovery Practitioner:

    • Provide skilled assistance for post-operative care
    • Apply pain management and support interventions
    • Provide care for patients requiring High Dependency/ITU intervention

    Anaesthetic Practitioner:

    • Assist in safe maintenance of airway
    • Help in patient positioning and preparation
    • Assist in patient transfers
    • Provide specialized services as required

    Scrub Practitioner:

    • Provide nursing care during surgical interventions
    • Assist the Surgeon and Anaesthetist for patient safety
    • Ensure sterile instruments and safe practices

    Teaching & Training:

    • Participate in teaching programs
    • Identify teaching opportunities and mentor staff
    • Identify training needs and participate in induction programs
    • Mentor student ODPs and nurses

    Person Specification:

    • Essential: Nurse or ODP with relevant registration
    • Desirable: Operating theatre experience
    • Essential: Recent experience in acute care settings
    • Desirable: Minimum 12 months experience at Band 5, ability to teach
    • Essential: Applied Anatomy and Physiology knowledge, surgical procedures understanding
    • Desirable: Strong organization, time management skills
