  • This role is eligible to be offered on a blended working basis, meaning that as well as spending time working on campus you can also choose to spend some time working from another location, e.g. your home.     Salary: £29,762 £34,314 per annum (Grade 5)
  • This is an exciting time to be joining Cardiff University in a finance role as we are transforming how and where we provide our Finance Services. This includes the creation of a Finance Services Unit which will bring together all operational Finance services across the University into one Unit.

Key Duties

  • Provide professional advice and guidance on finance processes and procedures to internal and external customers, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood.
  • Investigate and analyse specific finance issues, creating recommendation reports, supported by current best practice in the area of finance.
  • Ensure that the provision of the finance service is delivered to the Schools and the wider institution, proactively changing the delivery according to customer and stakeholder requirements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the School of Computer Science & Informatics, School of Mathematics, College of Physical Sciences and Engineering and the wider university, in order to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures.
  • Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University's Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required.
  • Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve the Schools' objectives.
  • Supervise specific project teams on an occasional basis to accomplish key objectives.
  • Develop and deliver finance training to support the finance service within both Schools and to others in the University as required.
  • Undertake a variety of finance duties to support both Schools and the College.
  • Instruct and guide other employees across the University on aspects of both Schools' finances as required.

Specific Duties

  • To operate all School finance procedures effectively and ensure compliance with the University's Financial Regulations and procedures.
  • Undertake daily financial administration using the University's finance system (Oracle EBS).
  • Working with the School research teams, monitor and manage the Schools' external postaward research income and expenditure against budget on School research grants. Conduct regular meetings with budget holders and provide accurate financial reporting.
  • Gather and analyse data to inform decisions, establishing basic trends and patterns in data and creating reports as appropriate in relation to research awards and support and develop School mechanisms for regular reporting and monitoring in these areas. Ensuring the management and analysis of data as required for internal and external reporting.
  • Provide advice and guidance to research colleagues on financial planning for research grants.
  • Work closely with the Central Post Award team to ensure all expenditure is captured and finalised within the correct project timescales, as set by external funding bodies and internal funding deadlines. Provide support for research grant audits when required, gathering transactional evidence and providing justifications on spend.
