We have more than 50 years' experience at the forefront of Radio Frequency (RF) and Infrared (IR) expendable decoy research, design and manufacture, and as a company with a culture of innovation, operational excellence and safety, we operate at the leading edge of expendable countermeasure technology.


We are currently expanding our L&D Function to include the role of an
Operational Trainer, who will be the trainer for Operations within Chemring Countermeasures.


You will be responsible for designing and delivering dynamic and imaginative operational and classroom-based training and development to production staff.


The responsibilities of the role are (but not limited to):

  • Responsible for delivering training to accredited standards for all Operational / Production staff.
  • Develop and oversee the effective delivery of all Operator onboarding and induction training.
  • Undertake and support line managers in competency assessments of operational staff at all levels, assisting with production and implementation of any improvement action plans whilst ensuring recognition of success.
  • Assist with the technical knowledge transfer of new processes and products by ensuring they are fit for purpose process instructions delivered through a structured training process which accommodates different learning styles.
  • Update and maintain individual and departmental training records and skills matrixes keeping them up to date and compliant with audit standards. Brief out and coach managers on any changes.
  • Support the L&D Manager with the delivery and evaluation of other inhouse training programmes.
  • Coach Manufacturing Leads in delivering an onboarding & buddy service to new starters following their site induction and audit in signing off operatives.
  • Deliver training in specific areas for production operatives, SOPs, safe systems of work, cleaning standards and H&S in line with agreed standards.
  • Quality check, govern and validate training and competence standards are being met through regular audit.
  • Oversee the interface with external certification bodies in respect of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001.

Operational Trainer specification:


  • Right to live and work in the UK, with ability to obtain SC level clearance (5 years British residency) if necessary
  • Level 3 Learning & Development Qualification, Level 3 PTLLS or Train the trainer or willing to work towards this.
  • Experience of delivering operational/compliance training to ensure site colleagues have the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out their role.
  • Adaptable trainer who can respond to the needs of the site and deliver training within our factory environment.
  • Experience of designing and developing training models within a manufacturing environment, desirable
  • Trainer and Assessor
  • Proficient in MS Office


This role is typically worked over a 4.5 day week however flexibility is required to support the needs of the business.
