    The Sport & Active Wellbeing Service at North Yorkshire Council has a strategic objective to inspire and enable an active and healthy North Yorkshire for all. We are an inclusive, health and wellbeing focused service supporting people to move more. We aim to improve the long terms physical and mental wellbeing of residents across North Yorkshire, contribute to reducing health inequalities, address the barriers that prevent people from becoming and staying active and deliver people focused, value for money services.

    The role

    As one our Community Sport & Active Wellbeing Officers you will support the Head of Sport and Active Wellbeing (Development) to improve health and wellbeing opportunities for everyone in North Yorkshire, you will lead on all aspects of community sport and support the development of the sport and active wellbeing service. You will work across the Sport and Active Wellbeing service and in liaison with partners to improve opportunities; address barriers to participation; tackle inequalities; help drive active participation and movement; increase engagement in sport and active wellbeing; and promote healthy lifestyles. You will also be responsible for the development, planning and delivery of sport and active wellbeing programmes and activities for identified target groups / communities. This will include work on initiatives such as This Girl Can, etc.

    What you will bring

    You will have a Level 4 management or business qualification or a Sport and Active Wellbeing degree and equivalent work-based experience.

    You will have a good understanding of current guidance and legislation in respect to sport and active wellbeing and community development, and have knowledge of statutory requirements, and of current trends, issues, and initiatives.

    You will have knowledge of the principles and practices of effective people management and excellent customer service, appropriate risk management, budget management and the ability to work to and achieve deadlines and targets.

    Good communication skills, both written and oral are a must with the ability to influence development and change.

    You will demonstrate strong organisational and administrative planning skills as well as effective time management and the ability to meet deadlines and key performance indicators.
