The Bureau is the UK's largest independent non-profit investigative journalism organisation.

In the last year, their investigations were published in over 105 countries across local, national, international, specialist, TV and digital platforms.

Foundedin 2010, they've grown from a small group of journalists to a diverse team to deliver hard-hitting investigations that have prompted inquiries, sparked legal challenges, and informed policy change.


As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day finance operations and functions, as well as providing financial insights to the leadership team and Bureau's board of directors.

Ideally, you will have an ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent)qualification, with experience of management accounts and VAT. They will also consider part-qualified or qualified by experience applicants with relevant experience.


This is an exciting opportunity to embed what is a new Finance role as well as design and develop new financial systems and practices within the organisation.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Monthly posting of transactions and reconciliation
  • Downloading and posting invoices and payments (including staff expense claims)
  • Preparation of monthly staff allocation summary split into projects and Gross Pay, NI and Pension
  • Posting journal re monthly staff allocation summary
  • Payment of PAYE liability
  • Paying staff salaries monthly
  • Paying invoices - bi-weekly
  • Preparing bank instructions for international payments
  • Preparation and online MTD submission of quarterly VAT returns
  • Reconciling intercompany balances
  • Detailed monthly consolidated management accounts - split into projects
  • Accrued and deferred income calculations and schedules
  • Cash flow - actual and forecast reports
  • Project cost reports for funders
  • Monthly project feedback/calls with project leads
  • Other cost/income reports as required
  • Strategy, forecasting and future processes
