Gigaclear is a high growth company delivering fibre-optic broadband to underserved rural communities in England. Started in 2010, the company is expanding rapidly across England.

With head offices based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, and a significant proportion of staff based in the field we have grown from 100 to 600 emplyess over the past 5 years and continue to pursue ambitious growth plans.

The Mobile Planner/ Surveyors are responsible for all design activities associated with Gigaclear's FTTP network design.

The role will focus on producing a technical design that contains enough detailed and validated information about a cabinet area to give increased confidence in build and cost accuracy.

This will also allow the delivery team and our contractors to build the Gigaclear network with mínimal change and maximum efficiency.

The role will also require ownership on build area by working on any changes to the design post the start of build

Key Accountability & Responsibilities
Completing a '*concept' design for walking the route/ joint survey with contractors
Completing a '*technical' design and pack for issuing for build
Ownership of network design from survey to design to build and into maintenance
Going out in to the field to carry out joint validation surveys with contractors to establish the most effective trench route and cab locations (based on cost, practicality and H&S etc)
Use 'MyWorld' to add notes to the concept design when changes are identified and agreed on the joint Gigaclear/ Surveyor
Updating the concept designs as a result of on-site/ real-time agreed changes to trench lines and CDC locations etc completing the technical design
Identifying SED/ structures, H&S and SSSI issues on survey and resolve accordingly (SED/ Advanced Warning Packs/ correspondence with relevant authorities e.g. canal trust)
Use a range of GIS software i.e. QGIS, MyWorld App, , Magic Maps etc, to determine risks and adjust trench lines.

When out in the field on survey, identify and include any new developments that may not be known at the HLD stage.

Carrying out bespoke site surveys and associated design work to include RFCs, disconnects, diversions, MDUs and business parks
Produce Network Design pack that will be sent to the contractors to build from
Complete requests for change on the network design throughout the build programme

Concept Design - Aspirational design that includes access cab and customer drop cab locations, achievable trench lines and pot locations for discussion and validation with contractors.

Technical Design - Factual design based on changes to concept design following detailed survey of the cabinet area


Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of FTTP network architecture and apparatus (civils)
Detailed understanding of FTTP network build civils activities, surveying and methodologies
Ability to identify and provide options to mitigate engineering risks.
Ability to provide conceptual design input that will improve/ benefit the final detailed design.
Ability to work with Gigaclear contractors and local/ national authorities.
Knowledge of GIS software (ideally QGIS).
Awareness of Health and Safety Legislation and responsibilities.
Knowledge and understanding of NRSWA.
Able to work with multiple departments and interact with Operations, Engineering and Sales.
Good understanding of wayleaves.
Experience of interpreting utility stats plans and knowledge of other utility plant.


Qualifications & Accreditations
Up to date NRSWA certification is desirable but not essential
Full driving licence
