    Main duties of the job

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to work at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust (Hampstead site). The post is a static part -time role covering the areas of critical care, respiratory, medicine and surgery.

    You will be joining a team of SLT's and you will be based in the critical care, medicine, and surgical therapy team. You will be well supported with opportunities for peer support and access to joint working with the clinical lead SLT and physiotherapist in critical care. You will participate in the bi-weekly weaning ward rounds and MDMs on ICU. The Speech and Language Therapy team run both videofluoroscopy and FEES services.

    The Royal Free has excellent clinical outcomes and the therapies team has a strong commitment to interdisciplinary, evidence-based practise and the hospital is a tertiary centre for hepato-pancreatico-biliary surgery (HPB), renal and neurosciences.

    Education & professional Qualifications

    Essential

  • Degree/ graduate diploma or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as a speech and language therapist
  • Certificated post graduate courses or equivalent inhouse training in clinical specialty areas
  • Desirable

  • Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Membership of an RCSLT Clinical Excellence Network (CEN)
  • Royal Free World Class Values

    Essential

  • Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Post graduate work experience as an SLT with an adult acquired population within the acute hospital setting
  • Experience of working in an MDT
  • Practised as an SLT at Band 5 or above
  • Completed RCSLT NQP competencies
  • RCSLT Dysphagia Competent
  • Knowledge and experience of a range of approaches for the management of speech/swallowing/language and cognitive communication deficits
  • Experience of utilising and referring patients for instrumental swallow assessment
  • Good understanding of relevant RCSLT and wider clinical guidelines relevant to rotations
  • Presenting to groups
  • Supervision of B5 SLTs, assistants and/or students
  • Active participation in an audit or project work
  • Evidence of CPD
