    About the role

    The Development Leads in Iriss design and deliver high quality and effective projects that have relevance to thesocial work and social care sector. Directed either by sector or policy priorities, and working with a range ofpartners, our work aims to make support work better for both workers and people.

    Our Development Leads come from a wide range of backgrounds including research, systems thinking, social work/carepractice, community development, and design. What they have in common is a drive to support positive change andan ability to take a project through from initial idea to completion and product development.

    Main activities

    • Working with partners to develop and design projects and programmes using the broad parameters of our innovationapproach.
    • Developing and delivering engaging workshops and facilitated discussions, both online and inperson.
    • Delivering projects to overall time and budget, using the right project management approach forthe task.
    • Developing and maintaining good relationships with key people and organisations relevant tothe project.
    • Taking a flexible approach to managing projects, considering partner pressures and thechanging context in which we work.
    • Identifying learning from projects, workshops, and programmes througheffective capture during sessions, post-session reflection and wider discussion.
    • Synthesising a range oftypes of evidence and knowledge to draw practical conclusions and develop useful products for thesector.
    • Contributing to the development of Iriss' positions on key social policy issues throughknowledge synthesis and discussion with colleagues.
    • Working with communications and digital colleaguesto produce a range of outputs from project work. These might be written, video, audio, an online course orsomething else.
    • Being part of the Iriss team through participating in monthly team sessions, 1:1 supportmeetings, project and organisational level planning.
    • Contributing to funder and other reporting asrequired.

    You will have skills and experience in:

    • Working confidently with a range of types of knowledge including academic research; practice wisdom; livedexperience; and policy literature.
    • Facilitating groups and designing workshops, including confidentfacilitation in online environments.
    • Writing clearly and persuasively.
    • Synthesising projectactivities and identifying learning into readable, usable resources for people working in social work and socialcare.
    • Project development in areas where 'the right answer' is unclear, contested orunknown.
    • Using the standard MS Office suite (or equivalent) in a work or study environment.

    You will have knowledge of:

    • Research and evidence use.
    • Facilitation techniques and approaches.
    • The social work and socialcare sector.

    A typical week in the role

    In a typical week in the role, you might be doing the following:

    • Working with a colleague, analysing outputs from a series of discussions, and deciding on the range ofproduct(s) needed from what you have learned.
    • Working with the Iriss CEO to develop an evidence-informedresponse to a social care consultation.
    • Meeting with the Scottish Government to help shape a piece ofresearch related to social work in Scotland.
    • Spending time reading academic research and otherliterature in preparation for designing a new project.
    • Doing an in-person facilitation with a socialwork team to help them think through what they want to make better about their systems and processes.

    Iriss supports people, workers and organisations to make social work and social care support work better throughevidence based innovation. Iriss is a charity that works across Scotland and our principal funder is theScottish Government.

    About the role

    The Research Analysis Lead role is to provide high quality research and analysis support to the Iriss team. There area number of specified key activities attached to the role.

    Key activities

    We have summarised below the three key activities that will be attached to this role:

    CSWO ANNUAL REPORT SUMMARY

    Iriss is funded by the Office of the Chief Social Work Adviser in the Scottish Government to undertake the analysis,and produce an overview, of the Chief Social Work Officer (CSWO) Annual Reports.

    These annual reports are a means for Councils to report on the delivery of social work services in their area,highlighting key activities, developments, and challenges. The summary report document that you will produce isintended to highlight key themes drawn from the reports received to improve understanding of the performance,improvement and challenges being experienced across the sector.

    ADULT SUPPORT AND PROTECTION (ASP) BIENNIAL REPORT SUMMARY

    This report provides a summary of the main themes emerging from the 32 ASP biennial reports from across Scotland,giving a general overview of the ASP landscape. Iriss is funded to analyse and report on behalf of the ScottishGovernment and the report you complete will be submitted to them.

    ASP QUARTERLY DATASET ANALYSIS AND PRESENTATION

    Iriss has been involved with the ASP community in Scotland over the last three years to develop a new minimum datasetthat ASP Committees can report against. That is now complete and the 32 Committees have started to submitquarterly against this new dataset. The type of data collected include demographic and referral routeinformation, as well a number of other agreed on key areas. The role for you here will be to collate, analyseand visually present this quarterly data back to ASP practitioners and the Scottish Government.

    Who we are looking for

    This role would suit someone with the following qualities and experience:

    • Desk/literature research and analysis skills: We are looking for someone with experience of theming and codinglarge amounts of material as this role involves the secondary analysis of research and reports.
    • Clearand accessible writing style: Key delivery areas of the role are synthesising large amounts of narrative andwritten material from reports and succinctly summarising that material.
    • Qualitative data analysis,interpretation and presentation: Ability and familiarity with the production of graphical representations anddata visualisations and an ability to carry out data quality control, validation and collation for large datasets is required.
    • Spreadsheets: An advanced level of using MS Excel/Google sheets to analyse and presentdata is essential.
    • Good communication and diplomacy: This role will involve working closely withcolleagues from Iriss and the Scottish Government to consider, draft and communicate these findings.

    Specific experience in the third (charity) sector and/or social care/work areas are desirable but not arequirement.

    A typical week in the role

    In a typical week in the role, you might be doing the following:

    • Analysing Chief Social Worker Officer reports for key themes
    • Summarising literature and presenting it ina clear and accessible way
    • Meeting Scottish Government funders to talk through findings
    • Meetingwith Iriss colleagues to decide how to best communicate the findings from a literature review

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Delivering fundraising priorities and targets for trusts and the foundation's income, including our current and future major appeals.
    • Researching, identifying, and prioritising appropriate trusts and foundations to maintain and convert a pipeline of new, prospective trusts and foundations.
    • Working with colleagues across the organisation to help shape projects for funding and creating strong Cases for Support to ensure effective applications.
    • Writing and submitting high-quality targeted funding applications.
    • Managing relationships with existing and new funders to encourage maximum funding, multi-year funding awards, and repeat funding.
    • Monitoring outcomes, updating the Funding Matrix, and producing timely reports and information as required externally by funders and internally for Management reporting.
