- Lead the department Merchandising function through day-today management, personal development and regular appraisals
- Assist and support the Trading Director and Head of Merchandising where necessary.
- Work cross-functionally within the product team to produce department product strategy in line with overall company strategy, proposing the financial parameters and then successfully implement.
- Create department seasonal strategies and financial plans by channel and category for sales, margin, stock and markdown, taking traded history and planned future events into consideration
- Use financial and product analysis to trade your department/s, maximising sales and profitability and affecting future levels of commitment accordingly. Deliver to the department KPI's agreed with the Trading Director.
- Work closely with your team to develop and select a balanced and commercial range which delivers the product strategy, and successfully sign off.
- Plan department seasonal pricing and promotional activity together with Buying and in line with overall strategy, supported by financial evaluation. Feed this into the company pricing and promotional plan managed by the Head of Merchandising.
- Together with your Buying counterpart, formulate the supplier strategy which sets out short, medium and long term plans for supplier partnerships, development & improvement. Maintain excellent relationships with key partners within your supplier base.
- Thorough weekly re-forecasting of the line-flows, forecasts and trading proposals, ensure that in season activity maximises profitability, whilst maintaining efficient controls of stock and hitting agreed department KPI's. Input into the company budgeting and forecasting process and take the necessary action to manage performance.
- Review, propose and action markdown events and promotional activity for your department/s, calculating the effect on margin and profit.
- Manage the availability of stock to ensure maximum profitability, launch dates are met and sale and stocks are potentialised in line with forecasts across trading channels.
- Manage your team, reviewing performance, conducting appraisals and creating development plans.
- Play your part in delivering the company sustainability strategy.
- Business related Degree Proven track record in Merchandising at Merchandiser level.
- Previous experience in retail essential.
- Team management & task delegation skills
- Highly numerate and able to interpret data to determine decision making, work to budgets and financial plans.
- Strong communication and influencing skills at all levels.
- Ability to present complex technical information to others in an understandable way.
- Strong presentation skills to all levels.
- Strong planning and organisation skills – able to change plans in line with business needs.
- Experience of all aspects of trading, ideally in a multi-channel environment
- Thorough understanding of all merchandising principles and systems
- Understanding of critical path and product life cycle
- Comprehensive understanding of customer profile, and product range and competitors

Role Summary
To lead the department Merchandising team in formulating, planning and executing the merchandising and trading elements of the department product strategy.
To plan and manage sales, stock and markdowns to maximise profitability across all the sales channels, within the agreed terminal stock targets.
