The Role
Canopius is a leading insurer in the Credit, Political & Crisis Management (CPC) field. Our expanding portfolio has led to the need to expand the claims team supporting our underwriting teams.

Our underwriters have extensive experience inside and outside of the insurance market and write a wide range of risks as specialist underwriting teams:
Credit & Political Risk, Trade Political Risk and Crisis Management.

This breadth of underwriting interest creates a unique opportunity for claims professionals to build a comprehensive knowledge of the political risk and credit world, working closely with internal political, credit, and legal experts in addition to our underwriters.

Canopius is planning a number of growth initiatives that will create even more opportunity for our claims team.

The CPC team sits within the Specialty Claims Division (alongside Accident & Health, Aviation, Canopius Portfolio Risks, Cyber, Space, and Specialist Consumer Products) as part of the global Claims function.

The successful individual would be given the opportunity (if desired) to cross train into one or more of the other classes of business as part of their personal development.

Responsibilities will include:

Develop a thorough understanding of the claims within the Credit, Political & Crisis Management portfolio and monitor circumstances that may turn into claims (whether in relation to individual risks or global events, such as the war in Ukraine).
Ensure that adequate financial provisions are maintained and reported appropriately.
Proactively adjust claims within their claims authority and in accordance with the Canopius claims manual; ensuring and delivering the very highest service to all our customers by effectively driving claims through to resolution.
Nurture and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders; in particular with the underwriters for these classes of business.
Instruct and proactively work with panel lawyers, adjusters, and experts to ensure the best outcomes whilst controlling costs and reducing claims leakage.

Skills & Experience

Experience with reviewing and assessing policy coverage for claims in the Credit, Political & Crisis Management class or other classes of business with complementary skillsets.
Experience in the London market as a claims handler, external loss adjuster, legal counsel or other capacity required.
