Description

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a large specialist Head & Neck Cancer Centre with major surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy provided on site.

You will be supported by a large, dynamic clinical team including Nurse Consultant, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Cancer Support Worker, Surgeons and Oncologists.


The Head & Neck team have a country wide reputation for excellent patient care and you will be a key player in continuing to provide that care to our patients.


You will be responsible for supporting patients on the 2 week wait cancer pathway, including taking appropriate actions to ensure that the trust targets are being met whilst also assisting in the effective collection and recording of the patient pathways across the Unit.


You will support all administrative and clerical issues relating to cancer patients' pathway of care, tracking and supporting them from referral to treatment and/or discharge.

In this role, you will actively engage in discussions and contribute to the comprehensive recording of holistic needs assessments. Serving as the primary point of contact, you will proactively address non-routine inquiries and resolve issues as they arise.

Establishing effective communication channels, you will liaise with General Practitioners (GPs) and cancer services as needed, fostering seamless coordination of care with patients and secretaries.


Your responsibilities will extend to the triage of incoming calls, utilizing a risk assessment framework to provide basic telephone advice.

Additionally, you will refer or direct individuals to additional sources of support.

Independently coordinating outpatient department (OPD) appointments for patients, you will play a crucial role in facilitating access to necessary care.

Active participation in team meetings and contributions to audits will be integral to your role. Furthermore, you will provide essential clinical support within a clinic environment to Head & Neck Specialist Nurses and Consultants.

Your involvement will extend to participation in Head & Neck Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings and assistance in coordinating and tracking the Head & Neck pathway for patients.

Under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), you will deliver patient-centered support and education to non-complex patients. Advocating for active and healthy lifestyle choices, you will contribute to the well-being of patients.

Moreover, you will educate Head & Neck patients and their families under the supervision of the CNS, ensuring their understanding of signs, symptoms, or situations that warrant concern.


Providing guidance to Head & Neck patients and their families on initiating contact when needed, you will collaborate with the CNS team to effectively coordinate comprehensive patient care.

Your role will be essential in ensuring a holistic and patient-centered approach in the delivery of healthcare services.
