The purpose of I-STORM (International Network of Storm Surge Barriers) is to share knowledge and experience, to promote and improve the management, maintenance and operation of Storm Surge Barriers.

As I-STORM Network Co-ordinator you will oversee the account and relationship management aspects of day-to-day network activities.

With Board members, you will be the link for current, potential and future members in accessing the services, products and benefits provided through membership by linking them to other members of similar interest


You will work closely and have an active involvement with international colleagues, to co-ordinate and manage delivery of the Network's events and key objectives, with the role also providing oversight of Network finances and support to both the I-STORM Governance Boards.


Your goal will be to stimulate and support as much co-operation and discussion internationally by joining individual country groups and members with similar issues for everyone's mutual benefit.


You will ensure the Network Communications & Engagement Strategy is delivered through your oversight of communications campaigns, providing direct support to members, updating Network information products such as leaflets, newsletters, internet blogs and webpages.

There will be opportunities to travel internationally to meet members, facilitate and attend Network events and workshops.

The role qualifies for inner London Weighting of £3889.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.


The team


The I-STORM Network includes members of storm surge barrier professionals from the Rijkswaterstaat (Netherlands), Army Corps of Engineers (United States), Venice Water Authority (Italy), Environment Agency (England), various Barrier authorities, specialist contractors, consultants and learned Institutes.


At present the administrative and co-ordinating functions of the network are retained by the Environment Agency so in effect, you will be joining the I-STORM Network as an Environment Agency employee and afforded all the associated benefits and flexibility.


Experience/skills required


You're passionate about the environment and keen to achieve sustainable outcomes in flood risk management and build an internationally recognised network underpinned by knowledge sharing.

Capable and confident, you are able to use your initiative when it comes to making decisions.

  • As the I-STORM Network Coordinator, you will need to think strategically, be highly motivated and proactive with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
  • Have firstclass communication skills and a positive team work ethic.
  • You will have exceptional interpersonal skills, along with a talent for building excellent working relationships with external and international partners.
  • You will be expected to develop professional links and relationships for the network across a wide range of stakeholders, different disciplines and geographies
  • A degree level qualification or equivalent experience gained in a related field, for example communications, sustainability, marketing or project management would be valuable.

The role will be a combination of office-based working and virtual working with much of the Network's activities and events organised via web conferencing and teleconferencing.

This provides the option of flexibility for the role to be split between office and home
