    Here's more about the role and what we're looking for;

    Job overview

    University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) has one of the largest maternity services in the UK, providing maternity care across Derbyshire and into Staffordshire.

    We want to provide woman-centred, family friendly care and offer a range of models of midwifery and obstetric care provision. This includes midwife-led care, continuity of carer models, and specialist care provided by our obstetric teams for women with more complex needs, as well as community midwifery services.

    This is an exciting new hybrid role that will involve working closely with the Labour ward manager, Matron's and Deputy Head of Midwifery to manage the maternity staff and resources within the ward/department areas to provide high quality and cost-effective clinical care. In this role you will be expected to demonstrate strong clinical and leadership skills. You will work closely with the Clinical Midwifery Manager (Intrapartum Matron) and the existing Band 7 midwives, to ensure that the Maternity Unit is operationally safe, effective and well led.

    Main duties of the job

    These roles are available at Royal Derby and Burton Hospital site.

    To manage the shift and have clinical responsibility for the area.

    To provide clinical midwifery care to women within the Maternity Services.

    To provide expert leadership advice to the maternity team

    To be proactive in the development of midwifery within the Maternity Unit.

    To manage/lead a team of staff within maternity service.

    You will also provide leadership to midwifery and non-midwifery staff, ensuring effective management of the daily activity and throughput within the maternity unit. This will result in high standards of midwifery care, reduction in length of stay and responsiveness to individualised needs, thus increasing client satisfaction

    Closing date of applications: 10th May 2024

    Interview date: 24th May 2024

    Working for our organisation

    At UHDB around 9,000 babies are born across our two sites each year at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) and Queens Hospital Burton (QHB). We provide antenatal and postnatal care for 11,500 women each year and, at RDH, we offer an alongside birth centre. We support women through low and high-risk care pathways, and some specialty pathways like diabetes and cardiology.

    We have staff who are kind, caring and compassionate, and who want to deliver exceptional care together for every person who needs us - and that remains our aspiration.

    This is an exciting new era on our maternity improvement journey, following a £5.4million investment into our services to strengthen our workforce, our technology and our processes, so that we can further improve what we do and deliver the best quality care to women and their babies. This is a great opportunity to join UHDB and make a real impact for the women and families we care for.

    As a University Trustwe value learning, teaching, and training so that we help you to be the best that you can be. From the moment you start with us and throughout your career we will help you to grow and develop. We are a vibrant and inclusive organisation, and we always want to treat our patients and staff with the same compassion and empathy we expect for ourselves.
