    Performance Engineer (Factory & Trackside)

    Brackley, UK

At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and Grand Prix winner George Russell.

Whether working in our Operations, Technical, Race or Business Support functions, we are all in and aspire to build the greatest team in the history of our sport.

Every individual plays their part. No stone is left unturned in the chase for every tenth of a second. The history of our sport is long and rich, and we are continuing our journey with renewed effort year on year. Record books remember the names of a few, but history is written by the many.

    About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Race Engineering Team reporting into the Head of Trackside Performance. We are looking for a Performance Engineer who has the passion and determination to make an impact in the Performance Engineering field. Working collaboratively with team members across a broad cross-section of disciplines you will work with the Head of Trackside Performance to help support the start setups and setup test items for the race weekend. You will thrive on working in a fast paced and ever-changing environment and in a role where you will have the opportunity to adapt our trackside operation to suit an ever growing race calendar.

We strive for excellence and are looking for the best and brightest minds to join us in helping to drive performance and improve efficiency. We are a team dedicated to high performance and need driven and passionate individuals who demand the best from themselves.

We are looking for 2 performance engineers: one supporting the trackside activities from the Race Support Room at the Brackley HQ and the other supporting at the track.

As a Performance Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the preparation for the events with analysis from previous years' data and supporting pre-event DIL running.
  • Contributing to the post-event analysis, proposing ideas to improve car performance.
  • Supporting the decision making of the Senior Race Engineers through data analysis.
  • Optimisation of electronic setup items at race weekend.
  • Driver coaching in & out of session: overlays, driving line and ad-hoc analysis.
  • Develop tools for allowing fast & efficient data-analysis.
  • Managing brake stock / brake wear
  • Actively participate in analysis to identify areas of risk and opportunities to contribute to the overall performance process
  • To be successful you will have:

    Essential:

  • Experience as a performance or simulator engineer.
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of both theoretical and practical vehicle dynamics and an understanding of tyre engineering.
  • Ability to compare and analyse car data will also be required along with good problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate the team's values when working effectively in a team environment.
  • A wide range of experience and skills and be able to combine them with a high attention to detail, enthusiasm, and curiosity.
  • Thrive in a busy environment, possessing excellent communication skills and be able to make decisions within a pressurised environment.
  • Able to work both independently and within a highly collaborative team.
  • Organised and initiative-taking and willing to take ownership and accountability for their work.
  • Keen to use intuition to perform deeper analysis of problems outside of initial skills and knowledge.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment with continual demands and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Desirable:

  • Ability to generate datasets for BBW, differential and engine braking maps would be beneficial.
  • Coding skills in Python or other languages
  • The Trackside Performance Engineer role will require travel to a significant number of race and test events and may involve periods of up to three weeks away from home. The factory based Performance Engineer role will also require some travel to race and test events.

    Benefits:

Our riverside campus is powered by 100% renewably sourced energy and features an on-site gym and exercise studio, subsidised restaurant and on-site parking with EV chargers available.

We offer a competitive and attractive package of benefits including a generous bonus scheme, Mercedes car lease scheme, private medical cover, life assurance and 25 days holiday. We pride ourselves on our family-friendly environment, employee well-being programme and offer flexible working opportunities.

    Why us:

At the heart of our performance are our people. Every member of our team has a voice and plays their part in contributing to our successes on and off the racetrack. We take pride in creating an innovative, collaborative and high-performance culture where all of our team members are respected, empowered and valued.

Through our Accelerate 25 programme, we are continuously working to make our team even more diverse and inclusive. Whatever your background, we believe that you will find working with us rewarding and enriching.
