Drivers Assistant (Stoke Based)


Intercity Logistics are a specialist haulage company that provide a first-class secure service to the banking, government & infrastructure sectors, the role will include delivering and installing high valued items.

They are seeking an enthusiastic and customer driven Drivers Assistant, a Drivers Assistant is a key role in assisting a delivery driver in deliveries, providing a prompt and professional service to customers.


As a driver's assistant, you will be responsible for helping the driver with loading and unloading goods, navigating the route, and ensuring the safety and satisfaction of the customers.

To be a successful driver's assistant, you should have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn.


You should also be able to work independently and as part of a team and handle physical tasks such as lifting and carrying heavy items.


Requirements & Responsibilities:

  • CRB Checks & SC clearance (All staff).
  • Stairwalker deliveries, (training provided)
  • Safely use Pump Trucks (training provided)
  • Safely use Sack Barrows (training provided)
  • Pallet and trolley deliveries.
  • Unbox and remove packaging, and placement to desk (when requested).


  • Printer Installation

  • Plug and Play following basic script (training provided).
  • PDA used on all deliveries for capture of POC/POD.
  • Manual Handling, carrying stock upstairs. (risk assessments & method statements are available)
  • Required to load vehicles and using the bars and straps provided, to secure the load for safe transport.
  • Required to ensure the vehicle loads are complete in accordance with driver manifests and safely secured in the vehicle.
  • Required to help the driver reverse, ensuring members of the public are not walking behind the vehicle.
  • Communicate potential late deliveries.
  • To liaise with the customer and report back to the Inter City Logistics operation centre if needed.
  • Telephoning customers to confirm delivery times.
  • Planning routes, navigating, and advising the driver about diversions.
  • Health and Safety processes to be followed at all times.
  • An understanding of the importance of customer service is essential, there is a lot of customer contact.
  • Act as an ambassador for the company, providing high standard of customer care and being polite at all times.

Skill Requirements:
Essential

  • Fluent in English.
  • Be able to work under pressure.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Be reliable, flexible, and hard working.
  • DBS checks will be carried out.
  • Employment References are essential.
  • Great customer service skills.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Clean, tidy & well organized.
  • Well Presented.
  • Be able to complete paperwork.
  • Ability to work in a second man team efficiently.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Copes well under pressure.
  • Manual Handling experience.
  • Assembly & Installation experience would be an advantage. E.g. Units for kitchens, office furniture, flat pack project work, instructionbased project work, plug and play, indoor outdoor furniture installation, electrical, gas engineering, building, scaffolding, and most engineering backgrounds.
  • Able to lift and carry large goods comfortably across multiple terrains.
  • CSCS card is not essential but desirable.
