Description

e City of Sunderland is undergoing a significant transformational programme that impacts on every aspect of the services we provide.

Our reputation stretches far wider than the city boundary as we are globally recognised as a welcoming and inclusive place to live, work, invest and grow.

We're a Smart City that is dynamic, vibrant, and healthy, with opportunities for all and with digital and low carbon at the heart of how we operate as a Council.

Our Values are also the golden thread for everything we do. We Innovate, We Respect, and We Enable. We're always learning and growing, trying something new. We take ideas on board and learn from our mistakes. We are ambitious and successful; we work best as a team. We're proud to work for our city, our residents, our communities, and most of all, with each other. We treat others as we would want to be treated ourselves. We are responsible, accountable, inclusive, and proud of diversity. We're fun, we're fair, loyal and kind.
We are one. That's the way we do things.

The role of Assistant Director of Finance (Deputy Section 151 Officer) will play a huge part in our transformational journey.

This is a real opportunity for an exceptional person with great communication skills, commercial aptitude, and demonstrable ability to maintain the Council's long-term financial viability through a period of uncertainty.

This is a key strategic role which deputises for the Director of Finance and leads the corporate accounting service, as well as providing dynamic financial modelling to support and inform the medium/long term financial plan.

As a CCAB qualified accountant, you will provide strategic leadership to the Finance function, delivering high quality business partnering, and financial services within the Council and to a number of council owned companies.

This role plays a key part in the leadership community within the Council and also advises and guides senior leaders and Members in a range of complex financial matters.

If you want to make a difference whilst being at the forefront of change, we would love to hear from you.
