- Promote active travel choices amongst residents, businesses and staff, monitor behaviour change to demonstrate the effectiveness of this work, identify improvements and implement them as part of our drive for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with the Council's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) team, education providers & NHS professionals to enable students to develop independent life & travel skills.
- Deliver personalised travel planning to residents living in Local Authority estates where transport poverty and health are key challenges in travel choice
- Collaborates with teams and services which come into contact with people at key points in their lives to identify potential travel choice changes, referring individuals towards Sustainable Transport options including our cycle training provision.
- Challenge existing travel behaviours and beliefs positively in day to day communications and through campaigns and events
- Embed active travel within council processes and policies and those of partner organisations
- Maximise engagement with active travel programmes, encouraging people to share their experiences and act as ambassadors for change About Us 1

About the Role
1The purpose of the role is to enable the people of Kingston to access active travel options by promoting the benefits and providing support to overcome obstacles.
What the job actually requires
The team and the purpose of the team
We oversee and manage the delivery of important "business as usual" activities such as school travel planning, cycle training, school crossing patrols and projects such as the procurement and management of car clubs, cycle hangars, dockless e-bike hire, way-finding and cargo bike scheme contracts.
As a key customer-focused service, our work streams frequently generate a high level of interest from our residents and road users. Our team engages with residents, businesses, staff and councillors as well as key stakeholder groups. We also collaborate with colleagues to support the delivery of the Climate Emergency and Air Quality Action plans.
About You 1Essential qualifications, experience and skills you are looking for in your successful candidate
Essential
The successful candidate will have strong written communication skills across a range of styles e.g. when responding to enquiries from residents, businesses and elected members and colleagues. They will present a positive and professional image when communicating with residents, stakeholders and colleagues in person, in online meetings, by telephone etc. The role holder will have Project Management experience, ideally for sustainable transport projects. They must also be proficient in a range of IT applications including all Google Suite software (e.g. documents, spreadsheets, presentations, calendar management). This role requires the role holder to travel to locations around and outside Kingston borough, acting as a role model for Sustainable Travel whilst doing so. The successful candidate will be adaptable and willing to support colleagues when they require assistance.
Desirable
We are looking for a candidate who understands the role and purpose of Climate Change and Active Travel agendas within a Local Authority. They should be familiar with Kingston Borough and have experience of travelling in the borough by different transport modes e.g. walking, cycling, public transport etc. The individual should also have experience of working within a Local Authority environment.
