    Circa £76,000 plus unsocial hours/on call allowance (approx. TfL - Band 4

    Are you an expert in incident management looking for a new challenge? We're recruiting a new 24/7 team to lead TfL's Surface network, standing up in early 2025.

    We have multiple exciting opportunities within the 24/7 Network Management Control Centre (NMCC), soon to be rebranded as the Surface Control Centre.

    The purpose of the Surface Control Centre (SCC) is to deliver highly effective and efficient command and leadership of the non-rail (Surface) network by safely supporting, co-ordinating, and enabling operational delivery at a network level to ensure TfL provides a world-class integrated service to its customers and to London more widely.

    SCC monitors and operates London's Road network including 6,000 traffic signals to support the movement of people and freight, as well as operating 12 tunnels including the Blackwall Tunnels and Rotherhithe Tunnel.

    SCC also manages London's bus network, including 8,000 buses that supported 1.More widely, SCC provides Command, Control & Communication (C3) functions for Trams & Sponsored Services.

    The Surface Control Centre is a world class operation delivering Londoner's journeys safely across Transport for London's Surface network including London's iconic Buses, Roads and Tunnels.

    SOO (Surface) roles – Brand new, exciting roles in the Surface Control Centre.

    The new structure is due to go live early 2025 so the initial focus will be training and readiness for stand up.

    Each position will be a 24/7 rostered senior manager role.

    Having strategic situational awareness of our operating environment and looking beyond TfL to understand the impact of incidents/events/weather and the wider community to understand incidents /disruptions that potentially could impact our services that can be anticipated and contained.

    Leads the response and recovery to incidents that require formal incident management by escalating where appropriate, formulating strategic objectives, identifying risks and accessing subject matter expertise, agreeing tactical parameters ensuring interventions are proportionate to the risks identified, meet the objectives of strategy and enable the safe and timely mitigation and resolution of incidents and stand down of formal incident management.

    Oversee/deliver regular and ad-hoc real-time communications on behalf of our organisation to senior stakeholders that are timely, relevant and accurate to ensure shared situational awareness and inform decision making
    Oversees the day-to-day outputs and activity of the C4 Coordinator team on shift ensuring they provide leadership, direction, support, coaching, address any performance issues and hand over to the people management team
    Holistic understanding of the transport network and geography of London
    The ability to assimilate and maintain a good working knowledge of TfL Operations including our relationships with franchisees, contractors and suppliers
    The ability to assess risks and identify appropriate control measures, including holding financial authority and the ability to make decisions with financial implications such as deploying resources and approving spend
    Experience managing complex and conflicting senior stakeholder relationships in a multi-discipline organisation providing a positive, consistent and unified image of at all times -
    Shifts

    Working as part of a 24/7 operation in our advanced control centre in Southwark, you will be working a shift roster made up of early shifts (06:30 – 14:30), late shifts (14:00 – 22:00) and night shifts (21:30 – 07:00) on a rotational basis covering weekends and public holidays.

    There are some variations in the shift lengths on the roster particularly on weekends where there is shift lengths of approximately 12 hours.

    In addition, you will also form part of an On Call roster in a 1 in 9 week rotation, providing additional resilience in the event of a significant incident affecting the Surface network.
