    Description

    Full-time, Fixed-term appointment (until July 2026)

    Based in Liverpool

    Key responsibilities include:

    MRC DPFS project

    • Engagement with Global Access Diagnostics (GADx) to monitor progress on the developmental phases of the LFA
    • Production of analytical specificity data on a panel of viral and bacterial pathogens in BSL2/3 LSTM laboratories
    • Sequencing of CCHFV strains from clinical samples from Iraq and Turkey.
    • Leading on the production of ethics protocols and trial manual for the diagnostic trial taking place in Turkey in 2025
    • Training the in-country teams in Turkey and preparation for the clinical diagnostic evaluation taking place in 2025
    • Communication and coordination of activities with the core team, Global Health Trial Unit, GADx and international partners in Turkey and Iraq to ensure successful delivery of the project milestones

    LifeArc project

    • Production of monoclonal antibody (mAbs) against RFVF antigens through isolation of PMBCs
    • Working alongside GADx on the screening of the mAbs and development of LFA prototypes
    • Production of analytical specificity data on a panel of viral and bacterial pathogens in BSL2/3 LSTM laboratories
    • Culturing of RVFV viral isolates of different lineages and performing limit of detection (LOD) experiments on the LFAs in BSL3 LSTM laboratories

    General responsibilities

    • Liaising, working collaboratively with, and providing support to other members of the team and collaborators
    • Leading on the data analysis, design, execution, and write-up of research projects for publication
    • Developing appropriate Risk Assessments, SOPs and protocols to local and legal requirements
    • Recording all experimental data generated promptly and accurately, in accordance with relevant standard operating procedures, policies, guidelines protocols and best practice

    The ideal candidate will possess the following:

    • PhD Qualification in a relevant subject
    • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and legal requirements, including experience related to the handling of HG2/3 organisms and working in a CL2/3 environment
    • Experience of diagnostics methods (LFA, qPCR, ELISA)
    • Experience in sequencing
    • Knowledge of diagnostic evaluation trials
    • Experience on leading manuscript drafting for publication
