    GMC Associate – Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) Exam Board Member

    £325 per full day of provision of services and training days, £162.50 for half day activities as and if required.

    An opportunity has arisen to join the General Medical Council in a critical associate role that will help us assess the knowledge and skills of overseas Graduates wanting to practise medicine in the UK. Share your experience and excellence as a practicing NHS doctor or medical educator to ensure these doctors are assessed by clinicians who understand what is required of Foundation Programme doctors.

    As an AKT Exam Board Member, you'll be part of the team responsible for the governance of the GMC's Applied Knowledge Test (formerly known as PLAB Part 1 exam). In this role, you will work together with your Board peers to construct the exam paper, set the standard and analyse the performance of the exam.

    Applicants should be on the GMC's Register, either on the Specialist Register, or be Trainees (successfully completed ST4 or above or equivalent). They should also have good understanding of the duties and competencies expected of a doctor to work safely upon appointment in an F2 role without additional support (beyond that typically expected).

    Please note:

    We are not currently recruiting for GPs to join the AKT Exam Board.

    We particularly encourage candidates to apply who meet the role criteria set out in the Information for Applicants documents and have a background in the following specialities:

  • Paediatrics (generalist)
  • General medicine
  • ENT surgery
  • Gastroenterology (medical or surgeon)
  • Endocrinology
  • Orthopaedics
  • Anaesthesia

    • As an expert in your area of practice, this role will be a great opportunity to develop your skills and your network as a respected healthcare professional.

    You will need to make yourself available for at least six days each calendar year. The role is split between the GMC's offices in Spinningfields, Manchester and London, as well as virtual/remote work. You will be eligible to claim appropriate travel, hotel and subsistence when completing work at our offices in Manchester and London.
