    Job Summary

    • We are looking for a Senior Mental Health Practitioner to work in our Liaison Psychiatry Service in Torbay Hospital. Working on a shift basis (including weekends and nights), you will play an essential role in providing 24/7 specialist mental health services to those in need.

    Based within Torbay Hospital, you will become a part of a multi-disciplinary team providing assessment, referral, and signposting to appropriate agencies that deliver recovery-focused care for individuals with complex mental health needs.

    You will be a strong, confident, and capable senior mental health practitioner who can make decisions that have a significant impact on lives. This position offers a fantastic opportunity for candidates to gain experience, receive training, and pursue development opportunities to establish a solid career within an award-winning mental health trust. We welcome individuals with nursing, social work, or occupational health backgrounds to enhance the skills and knowledge of our existing team.

    Main Duties of the Job

    • You will be responsible for leading mental health services at Torbay Hospital and making decisions that directly impact lives.
    • Your responsibilities will include conducting specialist mental health assessments and implementing interventions to support individuals' recovery. You will play a crucial role in a dynamic multidisciplinary team, collaborating with multiple agencies regularly.
    • You should be comfortable devising individualized recovery plans and possess effective communication skills to engage with team members, colleagues from other disciplines, community mental health teams, patients, families, and caregivers.
    • You must be an experienced mental health professional holding a recognized mental health qualification such as RMN, CQSW/ASW, BSc/Diploma in OT, or SROT.
    • As a team, we encourage ongoing personal development and the acquisition of specialized skills that contribute to our service's knowledge base.

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Desirable

    Essential

    • Knowledge and experience of acute mental health issues in working-aged and older adults.
    • Understanding of the Care Programme Approach, Local Mental Health Care Pathways, Mental Health Act, Mental Health Capacity Act, and DOLS requirements.
    • Excellent communication skills, including engaging with clients facing various mental health challenges.
    • Ability to produce precise, concise, and well-written assessments.
    • Capacity to prioritize tasks based on evolving needs.
    • Capability to collaborate with clients, caregivers, relatives, and professionals to ensure safe and effective outcomes.
    • Evidence of working independently as a practitioner without direct supervision.
    • Ability to assess risks and implement appropriate actions.
    • Desirable
    • Capability to communicate effectively with diverse professionals from different settings.
    • Awareness of community structures, social care options, and processes.
    • Understanding of recovery principles in mental health.
    • Flexibility and collaborative spirit in a fast-paced team environment.

    Qualifications

    • Essential
    • A professional mental health qualification, e.g., RMN, CQSW/ASW, BSc/Diploma in OT, along with current registration with a professional body such as NMC, Social Work England, etc.
    • Desirable
    • Post-graduate qualifications relevant to the specialization.
    • Mentorship qualification.
