    The role:

    Aviation and Operational Safety Manager

    A great opportunity has arisen at British Airways to lead a highly motivated team of Risk and Investigation Managers, responsible for the timely delivery of high-quality accident/incident investigations and risk management reviews. This role is key to driving the application and continuous development of the BA safety & security culture and support the Corporate Safety and Security emergency response plan.

    What you'll do:

    • Lead, develop and empower a high performing team of Risk and Investigation Managers to enable a culture of expertise, curiosity and continuous improvement.
    • Leading a team, capable of managing complex investigations into serious accidents/incidents related to assets, employees or third parties engaged in the BA operation.
      • Provide expertise and guidance in safety risk management for Management of Change and Transformation initiatives across the business.
    • Assign investigative actions (for 'TREAT' and above) to assure effective functioning of the management system, determination of root cause(s) and establishing clear control performance assessment.
    • Working with internal and external stakeholders as required to ensure the timely delivery of concise and accurate investigation reports that identify root cause(s) and provide achievable, deliverable corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Close management of Annex 13 investigations to administer and coordinate responses to accredited organisation(s)
    • Responsible for reporting on investigations, improving effectiveness and timeliness of responses from line areas. managing timescales, challenging findings, and providing annual reviews.

    What you'll bring to British Airways:

    • Strong influencing and communication skills.
    • Confidence to manage/lead peers to achieve departmental objectives
    • Ability to work collaboratively across Directorates in a regulated environment.
    • Ability to lead a team in the investigation of incidents and accidents (essential).
    • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the principles of risk management in aviation safety (essential).
    • Knowledge and experience of Human Factors principles.
    • Participation in the corporate response to accidents and serious incidents (essential).
    • Experience and detailed understanding of the fundamentals of the safety culture and its application in an aviation organisation.
    • Good level of self-organisation and motivation.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Objectively analyse and extract pertinent information from reports and observations.
    • Giving and receiving feedback.
    • Highly effective decision-making skills

    Your experience:

    • Relevant degree or qualification in safety risk management (desirable).
    • Recognised investigation course training (essential).
    • Demonstrated understanding and experience of investigation processes and policies in an aviation organisation, consideration given to alternative high-risk organisational experience (essential).
    • Detailed understanding and demonstrated application of the principles of aviation safety management (essential).
    • Experience of cross-departmental working and with external organisations/regulators.
    • Dangerous Goods technical knowledge (desirable).
