Description

To assist in the delivery of research in a specific area associated normally with an externally funded project and in accordance with the project's deliverables as specified in the project contractual arrangements.

The role holder is also expected to provide some technical and academic support for research council and/or commercially funded research and enterprise projects and to contribute to teaching and learning as directed.


Duties and responsibilities
Communicate effectively with the academic team members and research participants with directive and progress information.
Communicate effectively with technical support staff.

Contact and/or interview participants as required.

Administrative work for meetings and management of project(s).

Contribute to written documentations of project(s).

Represent the university at meetings and presentations as required.

Actively participate as member of research team.

Service outputs of project team objectives. In the context of the project, respond to public and participant queries about the research.

Part of decision making progress regarding deliverables and progress.

Day to day organisation of own workload within framework of agreed activity.

Resolve day to day problems related to research objectives and deadlines.

Use standard and project -specific research techniques and methods including selective questionnaire/survey methods and tests.

Analyse interpret results of own research and generate original ideas based on outcomes.

  • Assist with preparing bids for funded research, enterprise and consulting projects;
  • Carry out specified and agreed research tasks;
  • Analyse and evaluate outcomes of research;
  • Develop modes for dissemination of outcomes;
  • Write technical project reports;
  • Contribute to supervision of student projects as appropriate.

Skills and experience

You will have successfully completed an Undergraduate degree in computing, science, engineering, psychology, sociology or social science area or related area.

A strong working knowledge and experience of research methods and analysis is a distinct advantage, although not essential.


You will have good written and verbal communication, well developed time management and excellent organisation skills and a cut through approach to completing tasks.

Good IT skills, including competence in standard Microsoft 365 software packages.
