This role could be based in either our Bristol or London offices with time spent working in the office and at home.

A typical week would see you being in the office 1 to 2 days.

Flexible working:

This role will support the Group Data Protection Officer in driving a positive culture of data protection compliance and provide proactive guidance and assurance of data protection matters relevant to a fast paced direct marketing business working across wide ranging customer communication channels.

Ensure the SunLife business maintains a forward thinking approach to, and application of, data protection compliance.

Support the Group Data Protection Officer in their understanding and oversight of the identification, management and control of data protection risk across SunLife and wider Group, including its data processors.

Be the principal point of contact for all Data Protection matters across SunLife for the provision of advice relating to compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and associated guidance, working with senior management to drive adherence using effective communication and constructive challenge.

Ensuring the effective management of data protection risk, including developing opinion of the effectiveness and driving required improvements of the data protection risk function overall and ensuring regular interaction and communication with key business unit stakeholders, including directors and senior managers.

Support and contribute to the planning and oversight of the Data Protection Assurance plan across SunLife and its supply chain.

Co-ordinating and report on data protection breaches (and potential breaches) liaising with the regulator as appropriate; identifying key themes and ensuring that SunLife takes a risk-based and compliant approach to remediation

Lead the assessment of and manage, monitor, challenge and report on the data protection risks that SunLife is exposed to.

Leading the development and implementation of an on-going training and education programme which is tailored, as appropriate, to meet the needs of the SunLife business including delivering data protection training and presentations.

Monitoring and reviewing the applicable regulatory changes & notifications for impact and change required within SunLife and wider Group supporting services
Manage the provision of appropriate, timely and insightful reporting which provides a holistic view of all relevant data protection risk indicators to provide senior managers and the Boards with assurance that we are protecting personal information in line with our obligations
Previous experience working at a senior level within an active financial services provider
Knowledge and experience of distribution activities including marketing and the use of AdTech and the associated risks and regulations (e.g. PECR, cookie management, digital marketing, lead generation)
Knowledge of Information Security tools, capabilities and controls and experience in managing Information Security and Cyber risks.
Ability to understand/interpret the regulatory requirements to new or ongoing business situations.

Excellent communication and reporting writing skills with the ability to communicate compliance issues in a non-technical way to the senior teams and other employees.

Strong subject matter expertise in data protection legislation, regulatory guidance and case law in our core markets
Ability to develop strategy and apply a proportionate and risk-based approach in a principles based regulatory environment.
Strong project management skills, including planning, organisation and implementation of planned activities.
