Job summary:

Defence Business Services (DBS) sits within the UK Government's Ministry of Defence (MOD). It is responsible for providing corporate services to the Ministry of Defence.

This position is within the Financial, Procurement & Civilian People Services pillar responsible for the delivery of functional training to operational delivery teams and Induction training to all new staff.

As part of our ongoing commitment to support our staff and deliver excellent customer service, Financial, Procurement & Civilian People Services have a dedicated training team, focusing on functional training within the Civilian People Services operational delivery areas and Induction training to all new staff.

The location of the post is North West with regular travel across NW locations and less frequently to Bristol.

  • Applicants should note that DBS has recently undertaken a review of its operational locations in the North West, and will consolidate all activities in Blackpool. This means that DBS staff will move from both Walker House (Liverpool) and Cheadle Hulme in the late Summer of 2023 and initially relocate to Tomlinson House (Norcross). A further move, to the new Government Hub at Talbot Gateway in Blackpool, is scheduled to take place in 2026._
  • As a result, all vacant DBS posts in the North West will be advertised at Tomlinson House (Norcross). There is, however, an expectation that all DBS staff, irrespective of their agreed duty station, will travel to other DBS and/or MOD site(s), as required, to complete all necessary training and to participate in team or additional collaborative activities detached duty terms may apply. Terms of transfer have been negotiated for DBS posts relocating in the North West. DBS also supports Flexible Working, which can be discussed in more detail at interview. _
These positions are advertised at 37 hours per week.

This is a Fixed-term Appointment as a Band EO in the Defence Business Services Dept. Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. This post will therefore begin on your appointment and end 12 months after that date.

You should be aware that when your Fixed-term Appointment at MOD comes to an end, arrangements will be made in line with the FTA policy.

If you are a permanent MoD civil servant and are found successful for an advertised Fixed-term Appointment (FTA) you should move into the post under a Temporary Transfer (for up to a maximum of 23 months).

At the end of the posting, you will return to your previous MoD Business area.

If this posting is at a higher grade, your promotion will be temporary, and you will return to your substantive grade at the end of the Temporary Transfer.

If a Temporary Transfer cannot be agreed between all parties, then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA and Change of Work Location in the UK policy for further information.

If you are transferring to MoD from another government department (OGD) you should join the MoD on an inward loan.

At the end of the loan, you will return to your home (OGD) department.

If a loan cannot be agreed between all parties, then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA policy for further information.
