_Solutions Designer_
Our client is a very large, well-known, much-loved and award-winning service organisation that touches all of our lives.

We are working for one of its business divisions that provides a variety of essential support services nationally and itself employssome 3,500 people across 7 distinct operations.

Your opportunity here is within a team that's part of a 200 person strong Digital, Data and Technology function.


As Solutions Designer, turning business challenges into technical design, you'll be responsible for:

  • Understanding user and business needs and be confident in translating them into the design of products and services
  • Designing and prototyping solutions, interfaces and interactions. Working with designers to simplify complex transactions and explain clearly to nonsolution designers the reasons for design choices.
  • Assisting with testing and analysing research results
  • Maintaining a library of standard design patterns and promoting its use across digital services and the wider organisation
  • Leading in the proposing of changes and sharing of good practices that can be adopted to drive design standards, ensuring appropriate governance for contribution to the development of products and services
  • Following and supporting methods and standards to achieve a high level of accessibility for the end user
  • Developing frameworks, setting standards and principles and drawing up accompanying policies to ensure consistency and high quality services
  • Understanding design proposals from external suppliers, and support and present recommendations to senior stakeholders
  • Delivering designs that meet security, governance, web standards, ensuring that key elements are built in from the outset
  • Communicating and presenting, to a variety of stakeholders, indepth information concisely within sprint reviews as well as delivering lunch and learn sessions
  • Participating and sometimes leading in sharing best practice and adoption of design standards, trends and pattern
  • Mentoring and coaching other team members to enable the ongoing personal development and growth of skills within the team
  • Providing specialist training enabling the personal development of the team
  • Supporting recruitment and selection
  • Maintaining an awareness of financial and personal implications in the use of a range of resources and be aware budget management
  • Contributing to continuous business plans including budget monitoring
  • Contributing to and preparing proposals for change including producing necessary estimates, mandates and business cases within the digital and technology department
  • Making and guiding decisions
  • Strategy and understanding the whole context
  • Participating in the Solutions Design Community of Practice

As Solutions Designer you'll need:


  • Experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Java, Spring Boot, Cloud Platforms and tools
  • Management of significant ICT implementation, delivering effective solutions across multiple channels/platforms
  • Experience of business planning and budget monitoring
  • IT/Design related degree or equivalent, Masters advantageous
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
