    Job summary

    UCLH is undergoing a dramatic change in the provision of mental health services. The trust is looking to recruit a mental health workforce that aims to improve patient outcomes and experience. As part of this team we are looking for a team of health care assistants with a passion for delivering outstanding patient care.

    The post holder will be employed to work within the acute Hospital Trust providing care for patients admitted to the wards and requiring enhanced care.

    The post holder will be part of the MH Enhanced Care team which works closely with the Mental Health Liaison Team to provide the optimum level of care for those in crisis.

    Main duties of the job

    The role involves providing enhanced care and continuous observations to patients with mental health conditions or patients experiencing psychological distress and delivering therapeutic interventions that will reduce agitation and distress and promote recovery.

    The staff will carry out assigned tasks as part of a clinical team in support of registered nurses and undertake some aspects of care provision without direct supervision.

    Person Specification

    Knowledge and Qualifications

    Essential

  • NVQ level 3 in Mental Health or Certificate in Mental Health or Current equivalent experience within a Mental Health or Substance Misuse Team
  • To have experience of or be willing to undertake training in PMVA (prevention and management of violence and aggression) techniques.

    • Desirable

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent (with a minimum of 5 A - E qualifications - to include Maths and English).
  • Current Level 1 Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults certificates.

    • Experience

    Essential

  • Currently working in a care delivery role in either a mental health or substance misuse, acute or community setting.
  • Experience of providing interventions to people with mental health problems
  • Previous experience of working in a Health or Social Care setting in a paid or voluntary position.
  • Demonstrate awareness of a range of factors that contributes to mental ill health or addiction.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the Mental Health Act and its implications. or Demonstrate awareness of health and social care or substance misuse legislation relevant to role
  • Experience in carrying out assigned duties/assisting qualified staff after training
  • Working in a team
  • Working in a Health Care or related setting
  • Good standard of written and spoken English

  • Evidence of practical experience in delivering a range of diversional and occupational activities suited to the needs of a range of service users.
