    We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to our innovative service in the Greenwich Adult Learning Disabilities team. Are you looking for a role that focusses on core professional skills - occupation? This might be the post for you.

    The post is based at the Woolwich Centre, and provides a service across the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The multidisciplinary team is integrated with social care and the post is one of the occupational therapy posts within the team.

    The post requires a person with excellent skills in partnership working; delivering occupation focussed assessment and interventions; clinical reasoning, clearly communicate the occupational therapy role and work to others. The post holders work will include elements from each of the four pillars of practice with the emphasis for each pillar identified within the job description.

    The services within the ALD directorate focus on improving health, well-being and health outcomes. There is a strong commitment to reducing health inequalities and poorer health outcomes. The post requires a person who is able to consider their role to support this.

    Professional support and supervision will be provided from the clinical lead OT. Your own leadership skills will be supported and developed including having the opportunity to supervise others. As a directorate we fully support undergraduate OT training programmes and accept students on practice placements as part of the London wide Fair Share model.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder works within the Greenwich Adult Learning Disabilities Team, based at the Woolwich Centre, Woolwich.

    The post holder will work independently as a senior clinician, working closely with others, as part of the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will provide occupation focussed clinical work considering the impact of a person's learning disability on occupational participation, health and well-being and will be responsible for assessing, providing interventions and/ or consultation and evaluating the care and outcomes for their work and the work of others they supervise. Along with others in the team, occupational therapists signpost and support access to universal services whenever appropriate for the clinical need.

    The post is part of the ALD directorate's occupational therapy services and will receive clinical supervision from a Band 7 Occupational Therapist (or above) who works in the ALD directorate.

    The post holders work will include elements from each of the four pillars of practice:

    1. Clinical Practice,2. Education, 3. Leadership, 4. Evidence, Research and Development.

    Job responsibilities

  • To manage a specialist clinical caseload, working independently and without direct supervision.
  • To provide occupation focussed assessment and intervention(s).
  • To ensure clinical safety through contribution to and carrying out risk assessments, risk management plans, crisis plans and care plans.
  • To ensure that up to date electronic and written records are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards.
  • To supervise the work of support workers, band 5 occupational therapists and occupational therapy students on practice placement as required.
  • To work as a senior member of the multidisciplinary team providing specialist occupational therapy advice.
  • To participate in service development and research/audit activities
  • To review and reflect on own practice and performance through effective use of professional and operational supervision and appraisal guided by KSF.
  • To undertake effective support, guidance, supervision and appraisal of junior staff.
  • To ensure relevant national and local policies are implemented.
  • To follow best practice guidance from RCOT, supporting the implementation of this into own practice.
  • To contribute to the induction, training and education of students [both Occupational Therapy & other professions] and other staff in clinical area.
  • To be responsible for the supervision and written assessment of Occupational Therapy students.
  • To be responsible for meeting HCPC requirements around CPD, identifying and participating in personal development opportunities; and maintaining an up-to-date CPD portfolio.
  • To comply with Trust reporting procedures for incidents and complaints.
  • To contribute an occupational perspective to MDT discussions: referrals and the team caseload and work.
