    Description

    The Group Head of Tax - Control all tax matters (direct and indirect) in the Biffa Group, focusing on corporation tax, landfill tax, and VAT. Perfect for those from practice or in-house aiming for a Group Head of Tax role.

    Your main responsibilities:

    • Act as the primary contact for HMRC regarding tax matters, handling queries, disputes, disclosures, and audits. Ensure a collaborative relationship with Biffa's Customer Compliance Manager is maintained.
    • Forecast corporation tax charges and cash payments accurately. Prepare tax numbers for the Annual Report and submit tax computations to HMRC.
    • Provide expert tax advice on landfill tax. Oversee all landfill tax returns and implement new controls if necessary.
    • Review manual processes for compliance, stress test IT system assumptions, and approve VAT returns. Lead the RDEC process to maximize claims.
    • Address tax queries within the business, developing relationships for tax solutions. Manage the SAO process and monitor tax legislation changes.
    • Handle tax litigation and due diligence processes for acquisitions.

    Our main requirements:

    • Chartered Tax Advisor or Association of Taxation Technicians certification.
    • Experience in in-house tax teams, accounting firms, or HMRC.
    • Keep up with the latest corporation tax and VAT legislation. Understanding of other tax areas is a plus.
