    We're looking for a Health and Safety Advisor for our client based in Cambridge.

    You will provide generalist advice in a scientific / laboratory setting, monitoring and advising on health, safety and regulatory compliance issues and also act as the lead HandS Advisor on fire and facilities.


    Responsibilities:

    • Provide competent Health and Safety advice to a wide range of key stakeholders
    • Ensure HandS standards are maintained whilst supporting research
    • Work with the Head of Department to devise HandS strategy
    • Liaise with external regulatory bodies, attending meetings and ensuring actions are taken appropriately
    • Conduct inspections and audits, evaluating working practices and reporting accordingly
    • Lead on accident investigations, dealing with issues of compliance and danger
    • Take the lead on fire and facilities HandS, producing policies, procedures and guidance notes
    • Provide reports to senior management and ensure compliance with record keeping for regulatory and statutory requirements

    Requirements:

    • Minimum NEBOSH Level 3 General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification
    • Degree qualified or equivalent experience.
    • Experience of Health and Safety / Fire safety management systems working in an academic or research environment.
    • Experience of accident / incident investigation and root-cause analysis.
    • Experience of developing and delivering Health and Safety training.
    • A strong understanding of fire safety and Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order with previous experience of carrying out building fire risk assessments
    • A good understanding of facilities-related safety issues e.g. legionella control and the risks associated with building maintenance work e.g. working at height, lone / out-of-hours working.
    • Knowledge of common laboratory hazards as they relate to fire safety/facilities safety.
