    Job summary

    Requiredto fill these 2 new posts within the Radiology Department at the Leeds GeneralInfirmary.

    These are exciting posts to help Leeds Teaching Hospital deliver itscommitment to extended day, and then 24/7/365 delivery of Stroke MechanicalThrombectomy for the population of West Yorkshire. The postholders will alsocontribute to the delivery of general interventional neuroradiology services inclose collaboration with diagnostic neuroradiology, neurology and neurosurgerycolleagues.

    Thesuccessful applicant should possess FRCR (or equivalent) and should be includedon the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview,if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultantappointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on theSpecialist Register.

    Main duties of the job

    Applicants should have establishedskills in Interventional Neuroradiology and its related specialties includingDiagnostic Neuroradiology. A strong commitment to undergraduate andpostgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

    Consideration will be given to applicantswho wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

    If shortlisted, you will be required togive a 10-minute presentation on:

    Challenges and solutions todelivery of a comprehensive stroke mechanical thrombectomy service.

    Job responsibilities

    Expansionof Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trusts (LTHT) Stroke Mechanical Thrombectomy[SMT] service is critical in meeting the NHS Long-Term Plan ambitions regardingstroke outcome. LTHT has committed to the delivery of an extended day SMTservice by April 2024 and 24/7/365 services by April 2025.

    Centralto the delivery of this ambition is the recruitment of specialised consultantstaff skilled in the technical management and delivery of SMT, and of thenursing and AHP workforce to support them. There are also plans in progress todouble the biplane image intensifier fleet within the department to support theSMT and general Interventional Neuroradiology workload.

    Asan initial step, we are recruiting two consultant interventionalneuroradiologists [NIRs] to facilitate extended day working (extending from thecurrent weekday 17:00 service termination to 20:00h weekdays). The eventual aimis to recruit to a complement of six consultant NIRs and deliver a 24/7/365service.

    Thesuccessful postholders will also contribute to general and subspecialtyinterventional neuroradiology services in close liaison with colleagues inneurology and neurosurgery.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • FRCR or equivalent qualification.
  • On the GMC specialist Register or within 6 months (at date of interview).
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice - YOU MUST STATE YOUR GMC NUMBER ON YOUR APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
  • Desirable

  • Relevant higher degree.
  • European Diploma in Interventional Neuroradiology or equivalent qualification.
  • Training, Research, Teaching & Audit

    Essential

  • Should have completed a recognised training programme in Radiology and subspecialty training in Interventional Neuroradiology.
  • Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
  • Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
  • Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
  • Desirable

  • Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
  • Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Interventional Neuroradiology.
  • Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
