    The post holder has an important responsibility for and contribution to make infection control and must be familiar with the infection control and hygiene requirements of this role. These requirements are set out in the National Code of Practice on Infection Control and in local policies and procedures which will be made clear during your induction and subsequent refresher training. These standards must always be strictly complied with.

    The post holder will get the opportunity to work in a new 16 bed paediatric critical care centre, encompassing 8 paediatric intensive care beds and 8 paediatric high dependency beds. There are currently 360 admissions per year to PICU and 400 to HDU. The Critical Care Centre has whole time equivalent Paediatric Critical Care consultants.

    Main duties of the job

    This post is suitable for a Junior Doctor with middle grade experience in Paediatric Critical Care, Anaesthesia, Critical Care or Paediatric Emergency Medicine, interested in advancing their paediatrics training and developing their administrative skills in a teaching hospital environment. Ideally, trainees will have completed their MRCPCH Part 2 and will have an up-to-date certification for Paediatric Life Support training.

    Although these appointments are not accredited for training the appointees will be expected to participate fully in the educational and training programs within the department and the hospital. Appointees will have a named educational supervisor. Annual leave and study leave is commensurate with other post foundation doctors. The experience and opportunities offered would be excellent experience for applicants planning a career in paediatric critical care, paediatric anaesthesia or critical care medicine.
