Who we're looking for

We're after a very experienced and capable experienced marketing technology engineer to work with our development teams to deliver high-quality software, quickly and reliably, that has a tangible impact on our business.

You must be proficient and up-to-date in your field, have a good idea of how to design technical solutions using state of the art and industry standard data platforms, integrating with multiple diverse data sources, building and maintaining a strategic roadmap for future supportability and extensibility, and be able to command the respect of your engineering peers immediately.

As an Engineering Lead, your focus will be twofold. Firstly, you will spend time with teams across your area, working on delivery, guiding their design and implementation, spotting opportunities to improve what they do, sharing new ideas and best practice, as well as measuring the difference you make. You'll also be guiding and mentoring other engineers in your area, including contributing towards technical objectives and reviewing subsequent performance.
You'll need to be a versatile and active engineer, whilst being able to express your ideas clearly, without being too wedded to them. You'll put collaboration at the heart of your approach to software development, inviting input widely and making sure all voices are heard.

Technology at Schroders

Schroders' Global Technology (GT) function is organised into a number of teams, distributed across Schroders' global offices, with Technology hubs in London, Luxembourg, New York, Singapore and Zurich.

The software development and technology function is split between 5 business-facing technology domains:

• Corporate Technology

• Client Technology

• Investment Technology

• Operations and Private Assets Technology

• Wealth Management Technology domain

In addition there are teams which operate as shared services to Technology namely:

• Enterprise Technology (comprising our Architecture, Cloud, Data, Delivery and Engineering practices)

• End-User and Production Services (including production support, release and access control)

• Information Security and Risk

• GT Management Office in which sit our Business Management teams and our Chief of Staff.

Our application estate comprises both commercially-available off-the-shelf software packages best suited to Schroders' operational needs, and many internally-developed proprietary systems to support the specific needs of the clients and products that our colleagues support.

We moved into our new HQ in the City of London in 2018. We're close to our clients, in the heart of the UK's financial centre. And we have everything we need to work flexibly.

The team

Your focus team use marketing technology to deliver best in class innovative solutions to enable Schroders marketing teams to execute on their strategy.
As an Engineering Lead, you will also form part of the broader Enterprise Engineering function. This function exists to help us improve the way we provide business value through quality, predictable, and supportable software delivery. Enterprise Software Engineering also houses our DevOps toolchain team and our Quality Engineering team.

What you'll do

• Lead the engineering (data and software) across our data space.

• Work across 4 teams BI, Data science, Master Data and AI to be able to deliver successful data products which provide value back to the business.

• Coaching and mentoring all members of the team to ensure they are constantly improving, producing quality products and experience increasing job satisfaction.

• Develop and enhance our templates and toolsets to ingest, model and expose our data products.

• Become the center of gravity for engineering practice as well set the direction for data technology platform.

• Drive the adoption of patterns and best practice around the effective use of low code platforms for delivering sustainable solutions. This includes adoption of the 'shift left' approach to quality engineering and automation of build and deploy pipelines

• Work across teams in your area, guiding design and development with your technical expertise, and getting your hands dirty on implementation as needed

• Bring the experience and know-how to find the right balance between fast delivery, and longer-term sustainable delivery

• Drive a continuous delivery approach which focusses on developing software iteratively, with fast feedback loops, frequent releases, and a "shift-left" approach to testing

• Create an inclusive and collaborative engineering environment in which all voices are heard

• Bring all your talents to help shape our shared software engineering culture across the entire organisation

• Work in close collaboration with your delivery and product counterparts – sharing the responsibility for managing those in your teams to support their in-role development and career progression

• Collaborate with and contribute to the engineering community, helping to define best good practice and contributing to the ongoing improvement to our ways of working

• Support the smooth running of teams with administrative activities such as budgeting and forecasting
