    Job Summary

    Applications are open for Consultant Anaesthetists to join the Anaesthetic Department at the University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough sites in Cardiff.

    Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is a leading teaching centre for various clinical services.

    Flexible working arrangements considered for full-time positions. Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or a Specialist Registrar within six months of expected CCT/CESR(CP) date during the interview.

    The excellent Consultant contract in Wales offers a salary range of £91,722 - £119,079 per year plus Commitment Awards of £26,672 annually. Additional Wales recruitment incentive payment for Consultants on the first three points of the pay scale.

    Applicants need to provide referees covering the last 3 years of employment/training history. Substantive Consultants or Locum Consultants for over 12 months must also provide their Medical Director as a referee.

    Main Duties

    Successful candidates will contribute to the department's general work, covering for Consultant colleagues as needed. Sessions available in various surgical disciplines and emphasis on academic interests, research, and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine.

    Qualifications

    Essential:

    • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise.
    • On Specialist Register for specialty/Specialty Registrar with CCT/CESR (Combined Programme) due within six months of interview date.

    Experience

    Essential:

    • Broad training and experience in anaesthetics.

    Skills

    Essential:

    • Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working.
    • Effective and demonstrable communication skills.

    Clinical Governance

    Essential:

    • Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding the role of audit in improving medical practice.
    • Evidence of proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation.

    Research

    Essential:

    • Evidence of active research interests.

    Teaching

    Essential:

    • Evidence of teaching medical students and junior doctors.

    Management

    Essential:

    • Commitment to participating in the management process and effective leadership skills.
