PHLEBOTOMIST / HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT


JOB PURPOSE:

  • To provide nursing support to the Practice Nurse and General Practitioners to ensure the efficient and effective provision of the full range of nursing services to the patients of the practice.
  • To carry out phlebotomy tasks as required
  • The preparation and efficiency of treatment rooms and treatment room equipment.
  • To maintain adequate clinical stock levels and medical stationery.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To undertake all duties in line with the training and instruction provided by the Practice Nurse and General Practitioners.
  • Assistance at clinics ensuring patient care by chaperoning and assisting patients to dress and undress.
  • To provide phlebotomy services for patients as required
  • Conduct weight and height measurements, test and record blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
  • The testing and result recording of clinical specimens.
  • Provide assistance in minor operations ensuring patient care by chaperoning.
  • Taking and preparing of pathology samples.
  • Undertake ECG testing.
  • Assist with the provision of health checks for both newly registered patients and the over 75's.
  • Carry out routine patient dressings in accordance with practice guidelines.
  • The collection of clinical waste, ensuring appropriate storage prior to disposal.
  • To ensure adequate clinical stock levels and medical stationery and maintain an effective stock management system.
  • Ensure adequate stock levels in stock room, treatment rooms, fridges and cupboards.
  • The checking and recording of medical supplies on receipt.
  • Receiving telephone messages in the treatment room, recording and transmitting accordingly.
  • The development and maintenance of the themed notice boards within the practice.
  • The inputting of information onto the Practice clinical system.
  • Use of the Practice clinical system for patient searches for clinics and patient recall.
  • The ongoing cleaning and sterilisation of clinical equipment and working surfaces, preparing treatment rooms prior to use.
  • Ensure adequate infection control procedures in treatment and consulting rooms.
