    An exciting acting up opportunity for a Band 5 Research Assistant has arisen in Specialist Children and Young People's Services (SCYPS). This is for a period of 6 months.

    This post offers unrivalled opportunity to undertake high quality research within an outstanding academic and clinical environment We are looking for a motivated research assistant with a passion to explore research. The successful candidate would ideally have an MSc in Social or Health Psychology, or a closely related field. Excellent research project management and associated organisational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential. Experience with semi-structured interviewing, thematic analysis, longitudinal data collection and analysis, and general data management is essential. The post holder will report and be accountable to Dr Michelle Heys, Consultant Paediatrician (ELFT) and Associate Professor in Community and Population Child Health (UCL) who has a particular interest in health services research, participatory approaches and working with vulnerable groups, including Specialist Children and Young People's Services SCYP with complex neurodisability. Main duties of the job To support the delivery of the project: Novel procedures for evaluating autism online in an ethnically diverse population of children and young people. Telehealth may provide a valid and reliable to for facilitating the diagnostic assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This would both reduce waiting lists and support the preparation of education healthcare plans to benefit children in school. This study aims to explore novel procedures for evaluating autism online, producing a semi-automated cost-effective process for autism diagnostic assessment. During the course of this 2-year program of research we aim to develop a validated methodology for the evaluation of suspected autism spectrum disorders that, when fully implemented, will be applicable to communities throughout the UK, irrespective of their ethnic diversity and which will be tailored to surmount language barriers. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive - so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations Job description Job responsibilities The key purpose of this post is to support manage and support the day-to-day delivery of the study in its three key aims: The main duties of the post-holder will be to conduct high quality research, working closely with members of the academic communities across different locations, other researchers and other research sites, and liaising with clinicians and other stakeholders (including parents/carers, health care workers digital champions, national experts and policy influencers. The post-holder will also be responsible for identifying, recruiting and supporting patients through the research process as well as providing support as necessary to study teams and clinicians. She/he will actively promote research amongst clinicians, service users and the wider NHS. Additionally, the post-holder will be responsible for collecting, analysing and reporting on research data pertaining to specific projects. The post-holder will undertake statistical data analysis using complex methods and established software packages and be involved in the publication and dissemination/utilisation of findings. This post would suit a candidate with a track record in mixed methods research and experience in Autism/ neurodevelopment and neurodisability.     • Undergraduate degree in psychology or related social/ health sciences
    Desirable
    • Post-graduate qualification, or equivalent research experience in psychology/ psychiatry or closely cognate discipline (e.g. social science) ICH Good Clinical Practice
    Experience Essential
    • Knowledge of / familiarity with services for patients with neurodevelopmental disorders OR experience of health service research
    • Experience of developing and managing research projects, ideally in health or neurodevelopmental disorders
    • Experience in creating and maintaining participant databases
    Desirable
    • Recruitment of participants to research
    • Experience working with autistic people/the diagnosis of autism
    • Authorship on a research paper published in peer-reviewed journal
    • Experience presenting research findings to internal departments and external bodies and in research dissemination
    • Previous experience working within a multidisciplinary team, including interpreters ideally with the NHS
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Essential
    • Trained in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) OR 3Di OR Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI)
    • Research skills - data collection, data entry, data analysis and writing up research
    • Good writing and communication skills - demonstrable ability to communicate complex information to a range of audiences and through a variety of mediums with confidence, empathy and enthusiasm.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage people from culturally diverse backgrounds and in research
    • Ability to receive, analyse and handle large volumes of complex, sensitive and highly confidential information.
    • Ability to maintain accurate and up to date records Knowledge of standard statistical packages (e.g. SPSS, R, stata etc.)
    • Quantitative and Qualitative data analysis skills
    • Preparing ethics applications
    • Understanding of the research process demonstrable knowledge of research design and methods including an understanding of the analytical process
    • Proven organisation and time management skills to manage and deliver a range of tasks and projects to tight deadlines, including the ability to manage own workload within defined parameters. Computer literacy
    Attitude & Disposition Essential
    • Able to work flexibly, creatively, and cooperatively - contributing to the formulation and adjustment of plans and organising clinical, academic and service user involvement within those plans.
