    An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dedicatedsenior nursing team in the Acute Care Division at Mid-Yorkshire TeachingHospitals (MYTT) with a focus on Emergency Care Services. We are looking for aMatron who is passionate about leading change and adding value to patient care.

    The post holder should be an experienced nurse leader who isenthusiastic, dynamic, and keen to make a positive impact on patient and staffexperience; continuously improving the quality of patient care alongside keyperformance indicators.

    Our successful candidate will work closely with theemergency triumvirate to identify service improvements. You will be workingwith a dynamic, responsive, and enthusiastic team, providing opportunities to demonstrationyour leadership skills within a diverse population of patients, modellingoutstanding care every time and able to promote a positive team working ethic.

    Main duties of the job

    The role involves providing professional leadership andsupport to the clinical team within the emergency department, with specificfocus on standards, performance monitoring and quality improvements. You willbe fundamental in developing a focus on the Patient experience, Safety andQuality agenda. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and caringcandidate who can make a difference to patients and staff,

    You will have experience of and be able to provide visible, supportive,and inclusive leadership to enthusiastic multi professional teams. You willhave excellent communication and well-developed influencing and negotiatingskills.

    You will ensure high quality, safe patient care is deliveredby an appropriately skilled and educated workforce, through effectiveleadership by setting standards and performance monitoring of those standards.

    You will work collaboratively with all stakeholders toensure a high standard of quality care delivery including patient safety,effectiveness and experience; learning from feedback and patient and publicinvolvement strategies.

    Practice High Quality of Care

  • Demonstrates clinical credibilityand acts as a role model in the delivery of patient care.
  • Advocates for staff and encouragesthem to take their concerns and new ideas forward.
  • Monitors and assesses clinicalareas against CQC standards and key lines of enquiry, ensuring appropriatetimely action if improvement is required.
  • Supports the ward teams in thecollating of audit data, communicating the results effectively and leadingappropriate actions to maintain standards and ensure improvements are actionedwhere necessary.
  • Acts as a lead for Safeguardingissues, providing advice, support and education for ward nurses in this aspectof care.
  • Assists and supports the nursingand clinical teams in working towards achieving optimal patient care and bedutilisation.
  • Provides a visible, accessibleand authoritative presence in clinical settings to whom
  • patients and their families canturn for assistance, advice and support.
  • Works with consultant colleaguesin reviewing patient safety and clinical effectiveness data (includingmortality data) highlighting lessons to be learned where improvement isrequired.
  • Takes responsibility for thegovernance of complaints and risk incidents to ensure lessons are learned, capturingany identified themes or issues and ensuring they feed into ward level actionsfor improvement.
  • Works pro-actively with wardteams to provide early intervention and possible resolution of issues raised bypatients or their relatives so that problems can be addressed before theybecome formal complaints
  • Takes an active role in clinicalbench marking and supports the learning of their nursing staff.
  • Is able to design and lead projectswhich may be commissioned to support innovations in practice.
  • Participates in policy review anddevelopment to ensure safe systems of practice are in place.
  • By participating in Trust widenursing quality work-streams, identifies opportunities for working in new waysthat will improve the patient experience and works with relevant colleagues toensure quality requirements are met.
  • Works closely with the Head ofNursing and the Lead Nurse for Quality and Patient Experience to ensure allformal and informal feedback about patient experience is used to continuouslyimprove services.

  • Ensuring statutory training programmes areimplemented, and all training is monitored, recorded and evaluated as beeneffective in meeting the needs of the service.
  • Working in partnership with educationalproviders to promote an environment conducive to learning and development for allstaff including students.
  • Monitoring and effectively managing sickness andabsence.
  • Identifying future staffing requirement to meetservice changes and trends in the delivery of care.
  • Creating a healthy working environment withparticular regard to health and safety policies, flexible working, promotion ofthe need to balance work and home life.
  • Creating, maintaining and enhancing effectiveworking relationships.
  • Recognising areas of interpersonal conflict anddeveloping a proactive stance in resolving issues.

  • Supporting and coaching staff in theirprofessional development, recognising and utilising individual skills andknowledge, and providing opportunities for further development, to nurturefuture leaders.
  • Ensuring the correct storage of informationrelating to personal details of staff, maintaining all aspects ofconfidentiality with regard to the appropriate use of information.

    Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • ENB 659 or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Evidence of current CPD
  • Evidence of further study/knowledge at Masters level or equivalent
  • Desirable

  • Post registration qualification in an area of clinical specialty
  • Degree or equivalent qualification specific to a clinical specialty
  • Management qualification
  • Experience

  • Significant relevant leadership/management role in a large complex healthcare organisation
  • Significant post registration experience

  • Experience of clinical audit/R&D processes and practice
