    Would you like to be fundamental in creating a connection between these players and Badminton England that helps us deliver our strategic goals of getting more people playing, supporting the badminton community and winning more medals? Yes, then read on Role summary: As the Commercial and Engagement Director you will be influencing the direction of the sport of Badminton at Senior Leadership level and driving the successful implementation of our strategy through a team to position Badminton England as the most inclusive and accessible sport in England.

    You will be the lead responsibility for income generation strategies relationships and activity, including existing and new corporate partnerships and all forms of charitable income generation including philanthropy and public fundraising.

    In addition, you will be driving a positive culture, living our values and demonstrating our commitment to equality, diversion and inclusion and safeguarding through your work with your team to shape and influence engagement activities to get one million people playing badminton through leading our communications, marketing and digital strategies, and working in partnership with other departments and teams, in particular the membership team.


    Main Responsibilities:

    • Delivery of the transformational commercial strategy to drive profitability
    • Lead income generation strategies, relationships and activities
    • Lead charitable income generation including philanthropy and public fundraising
    • Identify, develop and maximise business and income from commercial streams through a Commercial Business Plan
    • Drive the sales strategy across key market segments to identify and optimises a clear path to revenue growth
    • Originate and manage business development opportunities that are consistent with the strategy for revenue growth for Badminton England and the YONEX All England Championships
    • Create and lead the key Partnership acquisition strategy to target, sell-to and sign new commercial agreements
    • Leading the team to drive membership growth and through consumer insight and segmentation, significantly contribute to the revenue growth target
    • To continuously review commercial operations and devise new income raising initiatives, streams, products and partnerships
    • Work closely with the Management Team to ensure a strong commercial focus in all day-to-day operations
    • Lead the commercial and engagement team and support the growth and development of team members
    • Embed EDI and safeguarding principles into all aspects of work
    • Manage the department's budget and lead budget forecasting Commercial Partnerships
    • Develop overarching strategy for developing commercial partnerships
    • Develop BE's portfolio of commercial partners
    • To identify and secure partnership opportunities
    • Manage the continuing relationships with partners to maximise the return for BE and upsell opportunities to grow these relationships Media
    • Support the Head of Marketing to deliver the marketing and comms strategy for BE
    • Support the Head of Marketing to help maximise the potential and financial returns from media coverage
    • Assist the Head of Marketing with negotiations and contracts for sale of media rights including TV, streaming, broadband, text messaging etc Membership
    • Support the Membership Manager and Head of Marketing to deliver the membership strategy for BE through commercial and engagement activities with specific reference to: Equality, diversion and inclusion with recruitment of new members, retaining existing members, developing new membership packages to maximise revenue opportunities Website
    • Support the Head of Marketing and Digital Manager to realise the commercial potential of the website in particular by: Commerce
    • To maximise the commercial opportunities for BE through partnership working with the Senior Management team and other members of staff. Who we are looking for?- Proven track record of achievement in leading the development and execution of commercial growth strategies, encompassing the expansion of existing revenue streams and creation of new business channels and partnerships
    • Proven ability to transform vision into reality, ensuring the delivery of a plan that maximises return on investment
    • A strong appreciation and understanding of changing consumer needs and a proven ability to "create" and "innovate" to meet demand accordingly
    • A natural entrepreneurial flair supported by a proactive orientation and innovative approach
    • Experience of managing projects successfully from inception to completion
    In depth appreciation and knowledge of digital transformation strategies with a particular emphasis on how to monetise these opportunities

    • Proven negotiation skills at Chief Executive / Board level
    • Ability to evidence the use of analytical skills to achieve growth and engagement
    • Impact and insightful with a proven ability to engage with, gain credibility and command the confidence of all stakeholders
    • A diplomatic, clear and inspiring persona in order to tailor the appropriate message and build effective relationships
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to quickly gain credibility
    • Excellent organisational, time management and prioritisation skills
    • Proven track record of delivering a positive culture in the workplace
    • Demonstrated ability to increase participation in sport
    • Track record in empowering and supporting teams to deliver
    • Proven experience in influencing and embedding EDI and safeguarding principles at a strategic level
    • Knowledge and understanding of the English sporting landscape

    Key Information:
    We're all about output so we have Hybrid working and flexible hours in place - it's a full-time role hours per week), but we understand that people have lives outside of BE - please talk to us about what you need. We can't promise anything, but we're open to a discussion about how we can support you.

    The current hybrid working arrangements are at least 3 days a week on the office (with the core day being Thursday).


    Salary:
    £65,000 - £70,000 Depending on experience
