    Description

    Position: Learning Support Assistant – British Sign Language

    Hourly rate: £13-£14 per hour

    Location: Bournemouth

    Start Date: June 2024

    Contract Type: Fixed-term (to the end of the next academic year), Full Time

    Working Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm

    Do you hold a British Sign Language qualification? Are you now looking for your next role where you can apply your skills and experiences? GSL Education are partnering with a primary school in Bournemouth to help recruit an individual who can support a child who requires sign language communication support. If you are skilled in sign language and want to work within a school setting, then this may be the perfect role for you. The school are looking to appoint a candidate who can provide 1:1 support for a pupil within the classroom environment, by providing tailored support, provision, and communication to meet their needs. Experience or qualification in British Sign Language is essential. Any experience using Makaton would also be beneficial to the role.

    The role is available to start in June 2024, for a fixed-term position. The role is term-time only and the working day is 8:30-15:00, Monday to Friday.

    The ideal candidate will:

    · Have a British Sign Language (BSL) qualification or considerable experience communicating in sign language

    · Have lots of patience, be proactive and committed to providing high-quality support

    · Ideally you will have prior experience working with children

    · Have a strong ability to develop relationships and rapport with pupils

    · Have excellent interpersonal skills

    Role of a Communication Support Worker:

    · Supporting the teacher with the delivery of the lesson for the 1:1 pupil, ensuring that the pupil is engaged and that communication is accessible through sign language and clear and simple spoken English

    · Helping to create materials and resources for the 1:1 pupil, working closely with the teacher

    · Support the pupil throughout the teacher's input sessions

    Qualifications and Skills:


    • Previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant or related role.


    • A genuine passion for working with young children and supporting their educational journey.


    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.


    • Ability to adapt and work effectively in a dynamic classroom setting.


    • A proactive and positive attitude towards collaboration and teamwork.


    • British Sign Language or Makaton experience required.
