    Job summary

    The Associate Director of Nursing is appointed to provide expert, experienced, proven nursing leadership within the Triumvirate. The post holder will report to the Divisional Director of Nursing, AHP and Quality and will provide strategic vision, clarity of purpose and oversee a clinically safe and cost-effective service within Specialist Medicine

    Main duties of the job

    The Associate Director of Nursing is responsible and accountable for providing comprehensive and robust professional leadership, guidance, advice, support, and direction to nurses, within the Specialist Medicine, Medicine & Urgent Care Division to ensure that patients are managed and cared for effectively, efficiently and safely. The Associate Director of Nursing is expected to work in accordance with objectives agreed with the Divisional Leadership Triumvirate and professionally accountable to the Chief Nurse.

    The Associate Director of Nursing will be accountable for the nursing workforce within Specialist Medicine Directorate portfolio and have autonomy to be able to flex that workforce within an agreed standard and funded establishment.

    As part of the Specialist Medicine Directorate, the Associate Director of Nursing will be accountable for the delivery of the full business agenda and on behalf of the Directorate and will lead the infection prevention and control agenda, the Regulatory and Quality Commission compliance agenda and will progress all elements of the clinical governance agenda. The Associate Director of Nursing will support the improvement and strengthening of quality of care by working closely with the local governance leads. A key part of this role will include ensuring the delivery of CQC standards

    We also provide community services and have a dedicated 0-19 service for children and young people in Enfield so that they can get the best possible start in life. This includes health visitors and school nurses who are delivering the national Healthy Child Programme, which provides a structured framework for the delivery of key interventions to support the health and wellbeing of children and families from 0 to 5 and school aged children from 5-19. The 0-19 service aims to improve pathways and partnerships with services in the hospital and deliver excellent care for the children and families.

    Locally, the post holder will have a primary responsibility to develop integrated service provision across the range of Directorate services to ensure optimal clinical and patient reported outcomes for the population served and work with the Divisional Director of Nursing, AHPs and Quality and the Clinical Directors and Director of Operations in moving the services, within the Directorate, towards an outstanding CQC rating.

    The Associate Director of Nursing will work with the Divisional Director of Nursing, AHP and Quality to develop and implement the strategy for nursing within the Directorate and oversee local delivery of nursing.

  • NMC/HCPC Registration
  • Management / Leadership Training -portfolio
  • Master's Degree level qualification or relevant experience
  • Evidence of training in management processes and other HR issues
  • skills

  • Budgetary management experience and understanding of the current NHS financial regime
  • Knowledge and understanding of key Govt. legislation, national guidance / drivers relating to the Directorate
  • Knowledge of a wide range of staff management practices including: IPR, Disciplinary process, Recruitment, performance, redeployment and absence management
  • Comprehensive understanding of clinical risk and quality governance principles and their application
  • High-level interpersonal skills.
  • Negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to write reports and papers.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate information to senior colleagues in multi-disciplinary and multiagency fora.
  • Commitment to working jointly with users, practitioners and other agencies to develop high quality services.
